Hey guys, whilst driving, going up the box is fine, put your foot to the floor and she'll kick down but not at part throttle, say on a hill/incline, she'll hold 3rd gear and not drop into 2nd:confused:
Any thoughts?
TIA:thumbsup:

What year? Mid throttle kick down didn't start till sometimes in the middle 70s

Oh !
68 Fury lll
So no part throttle kick down, how rubbish is that!

It is what it is man! Just go out and get a 73 and up valve body and do a valve body swap with what you got? I did it for a 69 /6, it likes it! This isn't rocket science!

My 69 Fury doesn't have that either. You can add it to your trans if you want as Stubs300 said. Going up most any hill my old 440 could care less what gear she's in anyways. If I want more I manually downshift to second. It's part of her charm.

I have been getting in the habit of dropping in to 2nd on the tree when needed, I have just changed the rear ratio from 2.76 to 3.23, so I'll have to see if its better around the streets

Finding those parts in the UK could be fun!
Now I know it's normal I'll except it

I actually love that. I was going to swap my 67 valve body to have part throttle but I’m pretty sure I’ve changed my mind.

I believe the part-throttle downshift started in 1971, as our '72 Newport had it. On our '66 Newport, I just got in the habit of doing a manual part-throttle downshift before getting on the freeway. Just a flick of the wrist and it's done. Then an easy nudge back into "D" when at cruising speed. Once you get used to it, no problem. Jusr need to get used to a "nudge" back into "D" rather than a "push" as the next detent is "N"!

Enjoy!

I agree that it's part of the charm driving these old Mopars. With the 383 in my Fury it's no big deal, even with the hills here in SW Pennsylvania, I just bump the column shifter down if I need to. It's kind of fun actually. I also use the Torqueflite to help slow her down when going down some steep grades to lighten the load on the drum brakes. You actually have to drive these cars, therein lies the fun.

I happen to have a kit from A&A Transmissions that add this capability to the earlier transmission that I’m not using. It’s a simple install onto the side of the valve body.

The part throttle kickdown upgrade is worth it.
Much more efficient.
Crank up the line pressure and a light stall convertor will make your engine happy and less wear and tear on the trans.
