New to me 78 NYB on its way but please Don't tell my wife

I hope all goes well with the engine; are you intending to do the initial start and break in on a dynamometer? Maybe I've been watch too many Nick's Garage videos but it seems a good thing, everything setup correctly and all engine data on the screen to ensure optimal functionality.

Either way I'm sure it'll be a good result.

Buena suerte! Mis mejores deseos!

Ended up shaving the extra material from the piston tops due Interference concerns from shaved block, new rods and balancing. Will Get cc’d from builder tomorrow as he is finishing that up just after the pictures were taken this morning.

Full report of specs to follow.

Any idea of what CR you'll end up with?

Can't wait to hear the specs. Awesome project, looking forward to hearing about how it performs.

Very nice deck height. Even with the 452 you will have a good squeeze.
10.03:1 depending on decking head and head gasket thickness, I did it at 91 cc and .040 gasket

Dear members of the Mopar Illuminati;

Converter question

Do I need to be concerned regarding the balance of the converter. Engine builder said engine is internally balanced with the front harmonic balancer. Converter is independently balanced. Converter does not show any alignment marks for flex plate that is also equally unmarked.

Can I just bolt it all up and not worry?

It will be fine. Typically torque converters are balanced with their own little weight (if required to true up from manufacturing). Bolt it up and drive.

Final CR came in at 9.5 to 1. 91cc and .020 head gasket. Bores were 30 over.

I misstated that the deck had been shaved. What was actually shaved we’re the tops of the pistons for balance and clearance. Had bought the pistons with the slightly raised portion so no problem. Just a little lathe work.

MP metal head gaskets were a little proud of the Bores so we went with a Felpro head gasket.

ended up replacing the exhaust valves due to some surface cracking.

all new lifters and springs of course.... all stock.

should be painting block on Monday. It’s taken so long that I’ve almost forgotten I had the car at all. So much has happened.

Other pictures from yesterday.

New water pump (because.... easy now) and correct block paint.

Here I was worried that the heat riser might have been stuck closed... and no plate.

Beautiful day to run with the sunroof open.

Gray ghost awaits her new heart.

Start building up the remainder of the block on Monday. Paint oil and pressurize before install. Just to make sure.

Looking for a good break in oil with lots of zinc. STP is what I use in other engines. Suggestions???

It means the bolts are not evenly spaced around the circle.

Yes! I noticed that.

But they are still equally distant from the center.

More “ not evenly spaced” than “non concentric”.

Thanks... I’ll be carefull to get it right.

And/or the torque converter to flex plate will only line up one way.

Oh what fun.....thanks. I didn’t notice that

I did notice no marks on the torque converter or flex plate to give up a clue as to orientation.

just looking at the stock photo above, one of the holes (bottom left) looks to be rotated to something other than the others which appear to be at 90 degrees.

Since the flex plate is out I’ll check it against the torque converter for orientation...... and mark it.... Before I start banging my head on the wall later.

Again.... thanks. Great tip.
