1965 Chrysler 300 L 2dr Hardtop - $6,500 - Bakersfield, California

FB Description

1965 Chrysler 300 L two-door hardtop 375 HP 440 engine ( 1969 decode), factory exterior paint code I believe is silver mist poly, black leather interior, buckets and console, power windows, has aftermarket dealer installed ( trunk mounted, not under dash) air conditioning. I did work to begin reviving car, cleaned fuel system, clearing out fuel hard lines and replacing soft hose sections, had a rad shop professionally clean gas tank, replaced fuel pickup sock filter, changed oil and primed oil gallery in engine before starting, cleaned and rebuilt carb (original to the 440), went through brake system, clearing lines, replacing hoses, master and wheel cylinders if I remember correctly. Car is straight and solid, no rust, currently non-op. Needs restoration, last year of the Chrysler 300 letter cars, appreciating in value all the time. Price is firm.

Well it's quite obvious that the car doesn't start or run and doubt this dipstick has done anything to the car because that drivers seat wouldn't have 20+ years of dust on it! I'll give him a Grand for it!

Incorrect engine and it needs pretty much everything. Non runner. Way overpriced relative to its current condition. Wrong engine would be a deal killer for most folks considering a restoration. On a good day maybe $1500.

In one respect, I'd be more concerned with the paint and interior, plus all of the correct 300-L ornamentation than an updated engine situation. For ultimate value, a correct 413 would be needed, though.

Unfortunately, with the car in open covered storage, rather than in a dedicated storage "room", the cosmetics will continue to degreade from the elements, even with all of the work that's claimed to have been done.

Just some thoughts,

Seems like a pretty solid and attractive car. Big savings compared to something that needs body and major interior work.

I just gave away a 65 413 last year, possibly available if someone is interested.

I dunno, this looks not bad to my untrained eyes, but I have no idea why someone wouldn't spend a day cleaning the interior, vacuum, wash the exterior etc prior to putting out on this forum. Could use a photo(s) of engine compartment, interior trunk, rear seats etc. Looks pretty straight, tinted windows, (or blue dirt!) some power options. Pretty good start for someone, CG

Yes, but not at $6.5k.

It is just me.. or have we seen a huge jump in prices the last few months....for our lowly C bodies? I hope it is just a fade. It is the only value left in the mopar line.

I'm torn on this one.
Would love to see how they put a 69 RB into a 65 C, that block is missing 2 bosses the motormount bracket needs.
Seller states a bit of wake-up work has been done, and kinda suggests if runs, but they don't elaborate on that.
Silver/black is a good color combo.
Looks like all the trim is there, and if truly rust-free sheetmetal, that's valuable.
Front seats look usable, and if truly leather, that's fairly rare in a 65, even in an L. The driverside headrest is super-rare, too.
Would deserve closer inspection, of course, but if this were a similar-condition 383-2 barrel Newport at $3000, would we say good deal but squawk at more for an L?

They'd ***** if their ice cream was cold. Lol

As for the engine swap, there's a couple of ways that could be.

Some 440's had the bosses like the 65 engines cast in but blank so all you needed to do was drill and tap them.

The other easier way was to get a Schumacher conversion mount bracket kit that bolted to the late model ears but positioned the isolator in the correct position. It uses a Bbody isolator so no issue trying to find a 65 mount that is made of unobtanium.

I've not inspected/documented a lot of RB blocks for those bosses, but I have 69 and 70 blocks here, with no bosses cast in.
I have a '65 413 that does, and a steel-crank 74 440 that does (and two 383s and two 400s that do also, but the Bs seem to always have them).

I just checked Schumacher's site and they don't show a conversion setup to put a non-boss RB into a '65 C, maybe they discontinued it.

Schumacher is pretty much out of business.

US Cartool just took on licensed production of Schumacher Products but I don't think they have updated their website.

Haven't lived there for 10 years, but I know the Bakersfield Airport when I see it! That's where this car is parked.
