Beautiful car. Does this ad look legitimate? It was listed a few months ago as being in Wilmington, DE. I wrote to the seller then and got no response. Now the same ad., but location is Providence, RI. The perfect condition and low mileage make me suspicious. The seller did write back this time. George Dylan Harrison. Quite a rock legend name. LOL. 1971 Plymouth Fury Luxurious Gran Coupe

I think that I saw the exact same car advertised in Miami a year ago, on the same website. With this in mind, I would tread carefully -- @Marv

As further grist to my mill, here is a 2016 thread on what again seems to be the same car, in Indianapolis. Note the slight claimed-mileage discrepancy, in the wrong direction (mileage is now lower than it was then): For Sale - 1971 Plymouth Fury III Gran Coupe 9394 Miles Brown Coupe 383 CID V8 3-Speed Auto

Note the position of the rear seat belts in the 2016 pictures (legit) and the current listing photo. What is the likelihood they would be in the exact same position 4+ years later? If you are interested in the car, I would ask for recent photos of items that are unlikely to have been posted, e.g., the fender tag, the underside of the dashboard, the rear shelf, the trunk pan.

PS: I believe that @GOLDMYN bid on the Indianapolis car when on eBay.

I'm almost sure this car was listed on ebay some years back. I was high bidder and seller refused to sell.

Do you happen to have retained pics from the auction, and/or info such as VIN and fender tag?

You can buy it now for half the price
I toyed with the idea of getting this Fury a year ago, when it was listed on the same site but in Miami. I had not heard of the site before so, with the help of another member, I looked at several other Mopar listings on that same site at that same time. We found that the prices of all the cars we reviewed were much "lower than market" and that those listings all used photos that had been previously posted during a prior sale. Then, when I reached out to the seller in Miami a year ago, I got no response -- same as @Hemicat this time around.

To be clear: I don't have many data points, just 3 or 4 listings in January 2020--and thus my findings do not establish that something (or indeed anything) fishy is going on with either this listing or with the website hosting it. Regardless, unless my experience is contradicted by a member story that ends well, I would be cautious (e.g., by asking for new, hard-to-fake photos).

Thanks Ayilar.

Better to be safe

Highly desirable cars in very good condition for half the market price on a website no one knows. I mean come on..
The whole website is scam

Could be a scam site, I'm reading a long winded scam report that cardealfinder.com came up in involving a car transport possible overseas shipper ripoff.

(edit) More, seems hat CarDealFinders(dot)com has been around for awhile, It's a free AD site so anyone can post (scammers) with little oversight. The long winded report that was linked/supported by LifeLock involved in what sounds like a overseas shipping escrow scam.

Also found this:
CarDealFinder Reviews, Rating 2.9. Read About
Smart.reviews
The advertised car does not exist. inquiries do not get answered. general listing for cardealfinder.com does not show the advertised car, but has plenty of expensive alternatives my opinion: cardealfinder.com is an unanswerable bait & switch operation; designed to get you onto their site with phony come-on advertisements.

(edit #2) I'd stay away from cardealfinder as I'm reading more negative reviews along the same MO as the offshore shipping scammer.
Plus someone posting about a flood of positive reviews that are all fake. These were all new recent reviews in the past 4/5 months.

Then there is this:

I googled a 1953 Oldsmobile 98 to help find the value of MY car. Boy was I surprised to find my car listed for $7500. 00. Watch the scammers here. They will list the car low and look for your deposit. They never actually let you see the car. They tell you they have a SAFE intermediary that holds the money until you are satisfied...
Buyer beware!

One more data point. I just had a look at the following car, YM23T0C149780 -- this 1970 EA9 Imperial is listed here on the same site as the above 1971 Fury Gran Coupe. The pictures of the LeBaron are exactly the same as could be found in an eBay auction a while back -- see here and here for records.

In the eBay auction, the car was in Illinois and had 22,393 miles. On the current ad, the mileage is lower -- "Original 18,000 mls".

Caveat emptor...

That particular car lives in southern Germany since at least 2017. I don't have pictures of it but Carsten has seen it in person as far as I know

@Georg/DFL it's been listed on mobile(dot)de for over 2 years using the exact same pictures off the eBay listing. Asking price was 35k€.. Wonder whether it ever sold at this ridiculous price

Correct, owner started with 38K in the beginning. No one bought it (wonder why...), that's why he had it registered in his name in 2019.

Guys, Unless I am mistaken, the 1971 Gran Coupe only came with the E57 360 engine (unlike the 70 which had the 383). I have never seen anything other than the 360, and checking online, I cannot find any with the 383 (as stated in the ad).
Also for those who love the Formal Roof, I believe all Gran Coupes had the formal roof line (which I greatly prefer.....)

The car is legit. The website is scam stealing ads from elsewhere, listing them and NEVER taking them down. The ads are usually ancient and mostly currently unavailable in reality.
They want your hits purely to get click bait money.

My Dads had the 360 which felt really peppy

I believe so as well. It exists, but just isn’t available.

The reality may be worse. The other two sites I listed do just that: they copy/paste info from past ads, typically eBay. As such, I actually find them useful as an (imperfect) archive since eBay started eliminating access to old listings last year.

The ads to which we have linked, on the specific site we are discussing, make the "effort" of changing some of the info (in particular the mileage) and removing the VIN info when available. Those changes make it harder to connect the "new" ads to original listings, making them look « fresh » to the uninformed. I don’t know if the site as a whole is a scam, but those specific ads sure look like scams to me.
