My 69 300 project/ driver and the things that distract me from it.

get a lift. think long term. hold off on investing in cars for a while and invest in a facility instead. makes everything so much easier.

Definitely need a lift. But that would require moving. Something I can't seem to come to terms with. That or vault the ceiling in my garage and live with it being in there.

Nice! 3 doors, correct?

It's a two door actually, 60-66 are the same wheel base as a short bed pickup. The 3 door came with the body change in 67. I brought it home with a 3 door 1970

I started a thread over on 67-72 chevy trucks to keep track of my progress. In story board fashion like this thread.

66 GMC long story longer... - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Not much to add lately other than the trans front seal blew last weekend. The converter galled to the seal. I pulled the trans at my inlaws house where it crapped out. I dropped it off on monday night and the shop owner had it ready thursday. Pretty good I thought.
Today I was getting started by swapping the flexplate in order to go back to an 11inch converter. That is when I noticed to .45 cal bullet holes in the floor!
They are on either side of the hump about 4 inches from the firewall. Not likely two accidental discharges. Has to be a story there... I know the car has some colored history. The dash is pretty trashed. I thought druggies tried to pull it out there are hacksaw gouges in the metal. Maybe it took some rounds?
Anyhow, when I seen that, I knew the transmission was not original. It was still on the tailgate of the truck so we crawled out and checked it. Per the 10,000 day calendar it is from 1970. I don't if somebody met there end in that car or what but the original bellhousing was certainly kia.

Brought the Fury home after sitting for a couple years got it fired up on the trailer and drove it off. Shut it off then no more ignition.
The plastic in the back of the voltage regulator hit its return to earth date and melted out. Weird how that happens.

New shoes for the 300 today and back to the wide wheels that were on it when I got it. And the Fury got a new voltage regulator and ignition module. It actually runs ok. I need to get a carb kit coming but hopefully there will not be much motor work.
Other than I know that plastic timing gear can't be trusted.

Progress and Regress, life lessons from early 2021.

It pays to keep notes. You can't hone your skill of staying focused inside of chaos and distractions, unless you have sufficeint chaos and distraction at hand.

Therefore, we must always replenish the well.

This month the well looks more like a geyser.
47 days in, two of the four additional projects have been hauled in. Assuring that existing projects do not continue without challenge.

In a comibnation of tunnel vision, and senility,
I struggled to get the choke on the Fury to function correctly. Endless fiddlery with the linkage had me convinced that something was awry with the linkage geometry. After taking a couple pictures of
Drivers side I retired to search for images to compare and ordered up a rebuild kit.
What do you find when searching for choke linkage? Well fist you have the piece coming out of the choke stove. Son of a ***** the choke stove. I have been spoiled with electric chokes for several years. Return to the car. Stove linkage fell out and is laying on manifold. Pop it back in, car starts like new in the cold. Choke works perfect. Starter drags terribly. Runs fine probably don't need the kit. Oh well its already ordered. I got my new master cylinder and one brake hose the other is on back order. But while I'm on brakes I may as well put pads on the 300. This was proving to be futile. After multiple attempts the pads will not go in. In sheer desperation I compare the profile to the old pads. What the hell could be the difference? Well....

You see that little difference in profile? There is the issue.

Well after grinding and filling and filing some more and the sun giving way to rain I finally got one side on. Swapped in a rotor and a wheel bearing. And here is the perfect opportunity to put that other new shock on. Where is it? Damn it, it was right here on the shelf in the box. Look impatiently while the drizzle out side picks up. Did I take it to storage and put it on the shelf there?
I don't know but it's raining and I'm done with this, the shock and the other brake pads will have to wait until next weekend.
Jump in the car and motor it over to storage. Park it and check the shelf. Yep there is the shock in the box. What's all this other **** on the shelf below?
A new carb kit, a master cylinder, hoses, and wheel cylinders... son of a bitchhhhhh! I'm completely senile at 47. I bought all this **** when I first got the Fury. And here I am waiting on back orders of buying it again.

What can be wrong with this linkage? It looks right.
GO TO THE OTHER SIDE! To be totally fair I did look at the other side but couldn't find anything wrong with the choke pull off. Totally not seeing the choke stove rod. But when I seen it in the picture I knew I didn't see it connected.
Now that this carb works great do I go ahead and put a kit in it anyway? Or just wait until I have 3 rebuild kits?

If it works as good as you say it does, I'd wait. Extra parts never hurt. Go through your parts inventory more often. :poke::poke::lol:

To add to the necessary distraction, I drug in a project flipper car for my nephew. Hopefully we can get it back on the road and move it along all the while collecting some tire money for his fist truck. He will be old enough to drive and we are pretty much down go paint and tires for big ticket items. I figure this will be a fun intermission and we can learn some things about the fwd 2.2 turbo cars.

My knowledge of fwd stuff starts and stops with Toronados and Eldorados. Where I had intended to leave it. Those cars had north south motors so I can at least look under the hood with out getting sea sick. Chrysler of course had the configuration in the 90's with the Stratus Intrepid line. But I find the outside of those cars make me sea sick.
Something is off in the scale of the front end.
Please disregard any subliminal messaging found hereafter. We control the horizontal and the vertical.

The short term goal for the Fury is get the brakes dialed in and mount some temp tires. This will make it a turnkey movable field car. Then in a few months we will dive in on the classified itinerary.

In the meantime I need to order a front end kit for the 300. Plus an ongoing wrench o rama on some brand x projects.

Well it's official I bought my buddies Newport.
His great grandparents bought it new here in town. It's been apart for 10 or 12 years. Its been inside for 40 years. Interior is pretty fair, seats have plenty of wear but the dash and door panel look new.
Lots of patina on the out side from four generations of drivers. It spent it's life on a farm.
It's back burner project. I stored it temporarily at a local yard. I am bringing the drivetrain home to go through it.
The plan is the out side gets minimal touch up where some sanding was done . Then it will wear it's origin paint and bumps and bruises.
Seats to be done as close to factory as I can.
Mild hop up on the 383. 4 barrel conversion with flat top pistons and appropriate cam. Electronic ignition. Mild shift kit in 727 and a 3:23 sure grip.
Then it's done.

Don't know if I'll keep it around. I never planned on owning it and I have a lot of cars and a big list of wanted cars. Depends on what the future brings.

But I had to have it for now. It needs to be road worthy. I rode in it 20 years ago and I love it. Plain Jane car.

Thanks to @B to C for hooking me up with these door panels! This forces the committment of a color. So I ordered new carpet. Time to do away with the green carpet and the green carpet under that green carpet.
Headliner is next and I have an eye out for a seat upgrade. Gonna put my white ones in my fury since I will be going with black.
