66' 300 383 rebuild

if you can run it and get out to 50 you are halfway there man this isnt so bad.

so it can only be a couple of things. too much gas. not enough gas. no fire. fire at the wrong time.

we can solve this easy.

when it falls over stumble - is it cutting out, or bogging, or just dies (did we flood out?) stutters? describe it to us lad

Just bogs, I can hear it open , it bogs and hesitates.

Also, you sure you have no vacuum leaks? Dist pull off, brake booster etc? Best way to test is a diy smoke machine with a soldering iron

I'd try to rebuild the carb 1st. If that doesn't do it, a NEW replacement carb for the Carter (discontinued - bought out by Edelbrock) would be the Edelbrock 1406. I have one on my 400 (stage 2/purple cam & headers). Electric choke, flows 600 CFM & is based on the Carter AFB 4bbl. As long as you don't anticipate exceeding 5000 RPM's, it'll serve well. But if racing or ragging on it is expected or desired, the Eddy 1407 flows more and will be needed to support the higher demand.
