Removed the dash Heat-A/C control in my 1972 Newport today. Several things are broken- the fan switch, the vaccuum switches, and the A/C signal wire connector is cracked. Sure would like the lettering on the plastic panel recoated with silver anew.

Is there any restoration shop that does a turn-key job? Or do I have to buy new parts piecemeal from somewhere like Classic Auto Air?

Vacuum switch rebuild, although I do see NOS on eBay all the time.

How To Rebuild a Vacuum Heater Control Switch

Fan switches can be found easily. NOS or good used. I think there may be one in the for sale section.

Thanks. Found a firm called OriginalAir.com that seems like they rebuild and rejuenate everything. Might as well redo the plenum box and evaporator while I am in there. Sure don't want to have to go into the dash again.

Now those cracked female electrical connectors that plug into the controls are going to be a problem.

The original control kept the compressor running even when not using A/C to "dehumidify" the air. Think I am going to disable that feature. Darn car burns enough gas without it!

The slides inside are plastic and when they get stiff they break allowing the adjustment arm to just slide back and forth with out engaging.

I have used Instrument Specialties in Rhode Island also. They are super. But they have taken almost a year and still don't have the dash back I sent them. They are SO slow I am hesitant to send them more work.

Agreed. They’ve had mine for over a year, but I’m in no rush for it so that was fine by me. Great people to work with though. You wanna pay a little here and there till it’s paid for, they’re good like that. Because it’s a Big nut to crack when the Bill is due.. lol

Yep, about $900 I think to redo my dash panel- and that is not even including the speedometer! But boy do they do a fine job. Looks like it just came out of the factory. Did not know they did heater/AC controls as well.

These people seem to be exactly what I need- restoring everything between the front doors!

Already sent a query. Who should I say sent me?

Thank goodness for this C-body forum. Without it, I would be lost on my restorations.
