First Snow!

9 degree F. this morning! Go for it!
Love that squeaking sound of snow under the boards.

That's too nice for crusty salty roads... tempting though.
Not to worry. Strictly a photoshoot with near period correct ski rack and skis.
I bought the long skis when in h.s. while the new ones are 30 years old.

I hate these people
I just messed with one a little over an hour ago, wasted 20 minutes of the callers time and we didn't even get to the specifics of the warranty & prices. I just put the phone on the speaker and went about what I was doing wandering around and playing with them making her repeat everything. Having a barking dog or screaming kids in the background is always a fun play on them.

I used to, but picking the lint out of my belly button has a higher priority.

I used to work at a call center for teen suicide when I was in high school. Best thing anyone did who wasn't interested, was say just that. Saved me and them the time, so I could bother other people. I did quite well in the short time I worked there, I knew people didn't want to listen to a long winded BS story, so I made it short and painless and got my money about 40% of the time. And usually the highest amount we asked for. Amazing what dangling a stupid coupon book could accomplish.

Who would dare leave a Hellcat out in the cold?

Hellcat has frozen over.

As I posted on another thread, here's a screen capture from this morning on my driveway cam. It's been coming done pretty hard for a while and I'll have to go out eventually with the snowblower.

So... Speaking of snowblowers.

I had to bite the bullet and toss down some Benjamins for a new one earlie. The 13 year old Ariens I had (still have) had been pieced back together a couple times, but a few weeks ago, it broke something in the drive. Most likely a belt, but there was a lot going on.... First, we had a storm coming, second it was very cold (single digits), I was having some issues with the arthritis in my right hand that had my thumb swollen up and not really working right (ever try to not use the thumb on your right hand?) and then Mrs. Big John was scheduled for surgery at 7:00 AM in 2 days.

Yea, it was not time to get out the wrenches and just fix it again.

I was planning to buy a new snowblower for next season anyway.... and that lead me to buying a new Ariens snowblower. I went to a slightly smaller (24") but more powerful model. Being smaller makes it easier to maneuver and store and coupling that with more power, it will clear the end of the driveway where the plow has pushed in the snow from the road. This has always been a problem, but this new one seems to be the answer.

Got heated hand grips too!! I don't know how I survived winter without those.

Yeah, a narrower cut and more horses behind the fan can really launch it!! And Ariens has been a stalwart among blowers for years, hope they haven't been too diluted of late.

Everything seems as good as the last one. The engine isn't the tried and true Tecumseh the last one was, and instead has the Ariens name on it.

One thing I was very disappointed in with the last blower was they had a drive that you would squeeze a lever and one wheel would disengage. This would let you spin it on a dime. This lasted about 3 years and after talking to a couple Ariens dealers (including a good friend who was a former dealer), Ariens had quietly, but quickly killed that feature. I ended up shimming the differential so both wheels locked and that worked, but it was a bear to make a sharp turn with. The system they have now has been out a while with good results.

If it lasts as long as the last, I'll be happy.

Move to Florida and you can throw away your snow shovel! yea riiiiight!

This is yesterday out in the new sprawl "Latitude Margaritaville" northwest of me. I only got about pea sized hail that just rattled up against the windows and didn't accumulate on the ground not like 15 years ago when it did and ripped off all the leaves from the trees. Some people did get dented cars from marble size and were crying about it on SnapChat but she had a Nissan so boohoo.
