I was at the hospital today. I was finishing up and waiting at the elevator. There was an older lady, I'm 65 and she must of been 80 and she's talking to herself saying how do I get downstairs. I told her we were already in the basement of the hospital and you can only go up from here. She said thanks and got on the elevator with me. We get off on the 1st floor and I have to drop off lab paperwork and then I leave and I'm in the parking garage. Guess who I see wandering around the garage? That same lady. She said she couldn't find her car so I asked her how she got to the hospital thinking someone gave her a ride. She said no, I drove here. I asked her what kind of car do you have and I'll help you find it. She couldn't remember. I said hang on a second, I'm going to get someone to help you. I called over to the garage security guy and told him what was going on with her and I said that it isn't safe for her to drive even if she would find her car. Security called the hospital and someone came over to get her and call her granddaughter to come and get her. Wow! I had to go to another medical appointment so I couldn't stay any longer. I don't know if she drove to the hospital or not, she couldn't find her keys either. What a day!!!

Ive had similar experiences with people that coming to the hospital (that I work at) looking for a specific office or just the front door. I try to explain where to go but the same reason they are lost is the same reason they dont understand where to go. When they get to the point of asking me they are very frustrated. So more than once I have gotten in their car to direct them across the parking lot to the place they need to go. I know, that should set off all kinds of warnings for both of us, but I do it anyway. Its going to be us one day.

I am sad to say that I am in that situation with my mom.
I went to Kalifornia and brought her back here in South Dakota and she’s in a retirement home with her older sister.
My mom still thinks she can drive and tells stories about what a good driver she is.
She’s got dementia.
I am going to visit her on Sunday and I suspect that she will ask me when she is going home.
I am glad that you helped that woman! Good deed done by you!

Good for you Bob, helping out that woman, and for getting her some assistance. There should be more people like you in this world.

Well, longevity has it's pitfalls. I'm starting to think that this is what I have to look forward to. There are times I'm driving down the road and forget where I'm going.......! So far I've always remembered.

Good work Bob. I hope your around when I need you....LOL.

I used to work for this place that built this really nice new building. It wasn't all that big, we had about 200 people working there, maybe a little more, I don't remember... I was in my 30's.

There was a hallway that ran the length of the place. Just a outside door to a parking lot at the ends and absolutely nothing to tell you where you were. All unmarked doors. It was like some scene from a movie about hell. I'd head up to engineering or something like that through the other areas . I would walk up, do whatever, walk around to see someone else in another office and maybe get bounced around to find who I needed and then I would walk out into this hall.... and have no idea where I was and which way to go. Just had to flip a coin and walk until I saw something I recognized, like the men's room and that would give me an idea where I was.
