The alleged future of EVs is "solid state batteries". None of the longevity issues of Lithium-Ion batteries and their possible fire issues. Faster recharge, longer range, better longevity.
"Re-powerings"? GM's already got some e-Crate kits out with more supposedly in the works. Might rely on the unobtainium chips?
Interesting article at www.lx.com/environment on the national grid systems. Detroit Diesel has a pair of e-Axle powertrains for over-the-road trucks!
If you run out of "juice" in the boondocks, no walking to the nearest farmhouse to get some gas with an EV. But then with cell phones and such, "just call somebody" instead? IF you can get a signal!
It's going to get interesting as all of these new technologies hit the road. Which was allegedly one reason for the FCA/Peugot = Stellantis deal. By observation, most of these things are driven by the European situation than anything else. BMW, Volvo, and others, plus Ford and GM vehicles in Europe too.
BUT one thing which might limit these things could be their price when compared to normal gasoline vehicles. Plus the ready-availability of mass charging stations nationwide!

Go for it. There are old VW shops already doing it with success, but that's a much different car and demographic. It's not for me, but if you do it, I'll watch for real world results/experience.

It'd probably be like swapping in a very expensive slant 6. If I remember correctly the GM "eCrate" will have a base price above $20K. Probably not going to be a big seller.

I can see it doing that, I just can't see how a typical guy could do it safely, at home. Maybe we'll see a YouTube video of someone trying!
The pulsating/desulfurtoring charger looks to be a great tool to buy.
Maybe I missed it, but did you ever say how old the battery is?

Well, is the battery back in action or decommissioned?
Guessing, 8 years, it powers a John deere diesel on a boat. Not used much, just starting. However, my FIL built the boat, and looks like he hooked it to the boat living quarters battery's, they are charged all the time by shore power
8 Years is getting toward the end of a typical battery life. I'm interest to see if it works. I've heard 50/50.
Did he not wire in a battery switch like this?
If not, it's a good idea so you can isolate the house battery form the starting battery.

Trying to figure that out, he just passed away, so I'm flying blind. There are colrhersey switches to each engine, I haven't found any to isolate the starting battery
I'm not familiar with "colrhersey" switches. Almost every battery selector switch that I've seen has been within a few feet of the batteries. I think I've seen one around a console. He might not have put one in. You just have to trace the wires and see. Homebuilt/wired stuff can be a hell of a puzzle to figure out.
I meant Cole hersey, it's that disconnect switch on the back of race cars, etc. Yes, I will be tracing wires. I'm gonna seperate it

I bought 5 of those battery reconditioned and they worked well on 3 of the 5 vehicles. The ones that didn’t work were on Shamu, the 69 Fury III vert. It has an orbital battery and it may be bad. The second one was on Lucifer, my tractor (International model 666). The battery was of unknown age. I will do some additional troubleshooting on the orbital with the Schumacher charger.
