And one that I NEVER heard of until yesterday:

This is a Spartan Imperial Mansion from 1954. DAMN! Another thing to covet!

This is a truly cool old trailer. I knew that Spartan made luxe aircraft back in the day. But this trailer is brand new to me. This one (sold):

1954 Spartan Imperial Mansion

That is pretty cool!
It only weights 8K so it wouldn't be that bad to tow. My skid steer weights that much.

These were towed, using a sprung dolly wheel at the tongue, similar in construction to a small aircraft nose wheel. It was far too tongue-heavy to be pulled with the standard hitch alone from back in the day. If you ever watch "The Long, Long Trailer" with Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz, you will see that very set-up on their rig. The trailer is a 1953 36-foot Redman New Moon, pulled with a 125-hp flathead V-8 1953 Mercury Monterrey ragtop.

So, yes, cars towed these all the time. So did 1/2-ton pickups. Plus, speed limits were generally 50 mph or less on state and Federal highways; as the Interstate Highway system was still a couple of years down the road, so to speak.
