So I've seen tons of posts regarding fit, color, etc. For anyone who has replaced the carpet in their 66 300, do the aftermarket kits from any vendor have the correct heel pads with the stainless trim?

Thanks guys!

I never knew they [or any car for that matter] to have stainless trim on the floor mat. Gotta a pic for proof?

Might be aluminum. The inserts are pretty stout. They're on both driver and passenger sides.

Even represented in the sales brochure sketch.

I searched extensively when I replaced mine several years ago and did not find any. I would be very surprised if it was available anywhere now.

It was a cool heavy-duty feature, I was trying to figure out how to incorporate the old but never did. Still cut out in a box somewhere in my garage.

Lame, that's what I was afraid of. The carpet itself isn't in horrible condition save for the wear right in front of the rubber pad.

Mike,
When you cut your pads out, we're they heat/chemical welded to the carpet?

Craig it has been a while now, but I know I basically gave up trying to remove them from the carpet. I don't know what they used but it was definitely secured very tight and never even got a loose edge.

I bought my 300L back in '06 and it had a new carpet with the metal-trimmed heelpads. I had never seen that before.
Don't know where/when it was installed but it was pretty new-looking. So maybe there's still some hope?
You should check with the online 300 Club, too.

Boom! Good call on the 300 club. Screen shot from their website. Looks like I'll need to put my wife to work on her Pfaff industrial sewing machine!

I believe that the normal heel pads were heat-welded to the base carpet, not sewn, OEM? In the case of some aftermarket carpet vendors, they mold the basic carpet and then apply the correct/desired heel pad with heat and pressure, from what I saw years ago.

How are the strips attached to the heel pad itself?

Thanks,

Ok, did a little more research and found this article:

L Carpet

Looks like the old stitching can be cut and the pads glued to the new carpet, so long as you specify no factory heat applied pad.

Thanks for all the suggestions, guys!
