1971 Newport Custom JabberJaw

I suspect the brake hose on that wheel is internally swollen and now acts like a valve, therefore the brake will need hours to release and until then the pads stop the rotor from turning. If both front brakes act like that there is probably rust or dirt somewhere more upstream in the line or brake pressure distributor/warning light switch.

Congrats! That’ll be a great driver. The first thing I thought of was the brake hose.

So, basically I will be needing to take the side apart that is messed up and blow air through the lines. Or replace the rubber line if it is internally swollen.
Is there no other way to force things through the lines without having to get air in the system?
Fancy tools?

I actually think that since none of the other lines appear to have any swollen parts that this will just be junk in the line.

The car pulls to the right pretty good. So the pads are definitely dragging.

Are the caliper clips just a spring type release? With a set of pliers or vice grips?

You won’t see swelling in the rubber brake hoses, just replace them.

Where do I find the correct rubber hoses?
My understanding is that these parts are readily available just about anywhere but my expertise lies mostly in the previous generation of these big Mopar’s. Get yourself a factory service manual for this year and model.

You are going to need to rebuild the calipers. There are kits available to do this. I'm betting the pistons are badly corroded, and that is why the pads are dragging. Don't drive the car until you fix the calipers, or you'll end up needing new rotors too. (Don't ask me how I know all this).

Rip's right. Oddly I had to swap out the passenger side caliper on my old Newport before driving it home. Unfortunately it was seized with the pads touching the rotor, so the rotor needed to be replaced too. All that crud in the master is mostly rust, and the fluid will be like that throughout the rest of the system. New rear cylinders will be needed too. The little spring clips are anti rattle clips, they don't do much.

Very nice car!

Replace/rebuild the entire brake system. MC, Fronts, rears, hoses, maybe lines too if corroded.

Think of this as a clogged artery. The swelling is internal you won't se it.

A little sleuthing here... You had to power wash the car so I'm guessing it was sitting for sometime. The fluid in your master is really rusty. I would suggest changing all three of the flexible brake lines and at a minimum inspect all of the hard lines. if you determine to replace the hard lines I would use Ni-Copp to bend up your own, very easy to work with. New wheel cylinders in the back. I've not had to deal with disc brakes on a ride this old so the others have better advice.

I have the rubber lines coming in tomorrow.
I will look for the rear cylinders as well and get them on order.
Is there a specific master cylinder rebuild kit for this?

Thanks to DetMatt, I just saw this thread -- and he and a lot of people on this site know, I have everything for the brakes system (and a whooooooole lot more !!!!!)
for your car...
In the brake system alone, I have the Master Cylinder NEW (I have the master cylinder kits also, but those really need to be saved for O.E.M. Mopar master cylinder s...), Front Caliper Kits, ++ N.O.S. ++ Asbestos Brake Pads (you should use NOTHING else!!!! To preserve the meat on the Rotors...), Front Disc Brake Hardware, Front BRAKE ROTORS, Front Brake Hoses,
Front Inner & Outer Wheel Bearings & Seals --- all
U.S.A. made.....
Everything for the Rears also....

You definitely first need to flush that rusty brake fluid out of there, as others have already suggested.
That is a recipe for disaster.....

Always best to simply call me --- Craig ---

Someone in my town saw me and stopped me last night when I was cruising the barracuda and asked if I picked up a chevy caprice or something.
Seriously, a chevy caprice. Everyone in my town knows I'm the mopar guy. That's what i get for letting vagabond brand X's wander into my driveway over the years.

Don't knock a beautiful 1969 Chevy Caprice 427 -- It is a beautiful powerful car -- definitely worth 2 or 3 hundred , if it's pristine !!!!!

No MOPAR, but money worth spent !!!!
