After a LONG winter, I got into "Big Red" (my '65 Sport Fury with the 426-S) and drove it down to a local cruise-in. It was such a nice morning and I really enjoyed just leisurely driving around. Since Big Red has a 4-speed, I had great fun banging the gears and an even greater pleasure in blowing away a Beamer. The driver was so impressed that he followed me to the cruise-in because he wanted to tell me he never would have thought a big old car like that would be so quick. Beamer guys just don't seem to get it about the torque of those 426's even in Street Wedge form. Of course, that little jaunt couple with the full-power blast used a little more than a quarter of the tank which has not only hi-test, but five gallons of leaded racing fuel (@ $7.999 a gallon) in it. I think when the next nice day comes along I'll go and find some 409 Impalas to humiliate.

Come On Fellas,
You Should Know that Anyone who has Learnt to Drive in a Rice Burner Just Plain & Simply Does NOT Have the Vaguest IDEA of What Torque is All About.
A Little Four Banger Runs on Revs. Where an Old V8 will Kick You in the Posterior When You Stomp on the Loud Peddle You have to Rev the Crap out of a Four Banger to Get Them Moving. Not Decrying the Little Fellas, I Have a 4 Cyl Runabout Myself.
But whenever I take a Young Fella for a Drive in a Big Block, the Response I get.... Well, I have to Giggle.
At one time I was Considering the Idea of having a Sticker made up for the Back of My Dodge.
(WRX... Breakfast of Champions!) LOL
But I'm Not That Unkind!
Anyway I can Only Agree, Doesn't Matter that they cost more to Run or that they need a Bigger Parking Spot, There is No NICER Feeling than Cruising in a BB "C".

My current "Big Red" is the top photo, but you might be interested in the bottom one as well because it shows the original one I abused back in 1964-1967. The current and the old cars are virtual twins as they both are Medium Red Metallic with matching interior, 426-S, 4-speed, no PS, and no AC although the original didn't have the vinyl top, tack, or bumper guards. That first SF was one of my favorite cars and after a few years of search, I was able to find the current one. The two people are the same, although the fifty+ years that passed between the two pics show that time has taken its toll.

Great story, my dads story is almost identical. He had a 65 Sport fury 383 4 speed car in high school and always regretted selling it. Looked forever to find it again and finally decided to build a new one. His car is also a 426W 4 speed car, Med Metallic Red with Med Metallic Red Interior, beautiful combo. Both of his cars are non vinyl. This is his current one, he ran Keystones on his high school car too.
