Why are magnum center caps so long? (they don't need to be)

My boss has a 1970 Chevelle with the Magnum 500's. I'll try to remember to measure the length of the center to see how it compares to the Chrysler. Maybe the repops I saw were a GM cap with Mopar center decals. Jeff

Why are magnum center caps so long? (they don't need to be)

I've always shared that same opinion. The centers stick out too far. I have seen some reproduction center caps that are about a half inch or so shorter than the originals, but that was a long time ago and it would probably be pretty tough to find a set. The shorty Ford centers don't clear...

    Rubber isolated stub frames interchange

Chrysler and Dodge had longer torsion bars than Plymouth. If you compare your stub frames, you'll see that the bars on the Chrysler protrude out of the back of the rear crossmember a couple inches more. As long as you swap the Chrysler bars into the Plymouth too, everything will fit. You'll...

    1971 Sport Fury GT

I'm glad to see that it went to a good home. It's really not the right car for what I want to do. Being a pretty rare car in an oddball color combination, it should be restored to how it left the factory. I had my mind set on a dark blue car, and even a Fury III would fit the bill, as I...

    1971 Sport Fury GT

Other than local Facebook stuff, I haven't been keeping an eye on the C body market for at least 5 years now, so I have no idea how often top dog cars are coming up for sale. As luck will have it, when something comes up that interests you, it'll be over here in PA or Jersey. Jeff

    1971 Sport Fury GT

I think I have a pic of the tag too, but can't find it right now. This one is the only one I can find. No question that it's the same car. This was taken back in 2010, which is when I found out about it. Jeff

    1971 Sport Fury GT

Nothing was ever offered to the general public. I never got the full story, but I think someone became friends with the family and bought some of the more desirable cars out of the collection. I thought I had an opportunity for a connection to them through a friend, but it never...

WANTED Left front wheel hub - 11x3 drum brakes

Not sure if '64 and '65 use the same hub. They made a lot of changes in '65 and it looks like they use different drums between the two years. Would be best to verify part numbers before spending money on shipping. Jeff

    1971 Sport Fury GT

I think it's the silver car with burnt orange interior that came out of the big Mopar collection in Utah a little while back. Jeff

    Upper ball joints

I believe that I had a similar problem a few years back with MOOG uppers. I would try to find some NOS uppers from any reputable brand and see how they fit. Craig @mobileparts probably has them in stock. I guess that there's a slight possibility that the ones that were installed on your car...

    Spindles!

That's not a bad idea. There's quite a few frequently asked questions that could be turned into "sticky" guides. For some things, especially relating to the '67-'73 Imperials, I don't think we know all the answers at this time. Rotors are a big issue for the late '69-'73 cars, though I just...

    Spindles!

Before you do anything, you should check to see if the lower ball joints are bad. Most likely they are, unless someone has already replaced them or the car has real low miles. Your lower ball joints are disc brake only and will need to be rebuilt for around $300 a side. If this is the case...

    Speedometer and instrument cluster lights

Did they ever work since you have owned the car? It's unusual for all the bulbs to be burned out, unless the voltage regulator failed at some point in the past and fried all the bulbs by spiking up to 20 volts or so. I have seen this happen a few times over the years. Jeff

    The unknown control arm

Considering that the sub frame is attached with a piece of all-thread tack welded to the main frame of the car, I'm going to guess that there wasn't a whole lot of engineering that went into the build. I wouldn't be surprised if the caster is way off and that's why the car handles strangely...

    The unknown control arm

I'm going to have to correct you guys on this one. No question about it, that's an isolated K member used in the 1973 and up B bodies, Cordoba/Charger to 1979, and R bodies up to 1981. The FMJ has transverse torsion bars that connect to the outboard area of the lower control arm. They all...

NOT MINE 1972 Polara wagon on Facebook. (North Salem, NY) $6500

I think you're right. Looks like there is a hole in the right dog leg just above the rocker trim. I saw something on the rear quarter, but thought it was the reflection of painted line for the parking space. Jeff

NOT MINE 1972 Polara wagon on Facebook. (North Salem, NY) $6500

Not so sure about that. The quarters usually go long before the car gets ugly underneath. It's got the remains of a hood pad on it, so it should be a factory undercoat car. Might be one of these facebook sellers that never responds to any inquiries?

NOT MINE 1972 Polara wagon on Facebook. (North Salem, NY) $6500

This one looks pretty nice, other than a dent in the driver door. It's been up for a while now, which always worries me a bit, though word has it that classic car sales are very weak right now...

1966 New Yorker low oil pressure question

A few years back I lost oil pressure on my "69 Imperial all of a sudden, and it turned out to be the oil pump. Most likely, the pressure regulating valve failed. I didn't bother pulling the pan to check the screen. It's pretty easy to slap a new pump on and see what happens, rather than go...
