Hey guys, I just found a bunch of NOS all brass actual Robertshaw 370-180 tstats on Ebay for $21.99. These are supposed to be really good. Going to put this and a Gates 43026P pump on...should run nice and cool.

to your question ayilar...the body is too complex to machine for a reasonable price.It is packed away for the winter, but I will post up photos of the assembly all taken apart for others reference in the spring.It is a surprisingly complicated piece of engineering.

Does anyone have a failed, leaky example of the original heater valve they are willing to donate for an experiment? I would love to take that body to my machinist friend and see if he could reproduce that body in aluminum to make a retofit option. PM me if you do.

Stainless? The fittings threaded into the case are zinc coated steel.Brass AN ftgs are too soft.The ty-wraps are to hold split rubber tubing that protects the bent lines from abrasion...nothing more.Only non AN connections are the lined worm drive clamps on the rubber/steel vibration connections...

The straight and taper thread are the same.....it is made to screw right in by hand. A soft material like aluminum is not great for tapered NPT pipe thread.

You guys are missing the point of these fittings. They are straight thread with a copper sealing washer to take the stress off the 727 case. They can crack at those ports if an NPT fitting is over tightened.Also, he made them with a larger ID so you get more flow. I am not using AN style...
