Differences in SLAB steering boxes - advertised to be equivalent 68 Newport but not so

I communicated back with 'Great Auto Parts' (through ebay) and explained what was up. They mentioned that they knew what I was talking about and exchanged the incorrect part for the correct version within a couple days. ( I had sent them the photos posted here and the explanation, expecting...

Differences in SLAB steering boxes - advertised to be equivalent 68 Newport but not so

Thanks Fury Fan, This is the news I was searching for. To summarize, the typical auto parts suppliers have their wires crossed on this part. I've checked Advance Auto Parts, OReily's, Auto Zone and Great Auto Parts (E-bay). It is NOT an identical direct swap, and requires modification and...

Differences in SLAB steering boxes - advertised to be equivalent 68 Newport but not so

Has anyone noticed some steering boxes do not fit? They look ok, holes sort of line up, but when you go to tighten them up to the frame, it gets pulled way out of position, and unusable without modification. The ones with a point on the south side, are correct. The "before" pic, in the car...

YES, YES, YES!!! Firm Feel Rear Sway Bar

Awesome advice. great information on this thread! I picked up one from a location in cal, not firm feel. It doesn't look or seem right. My new rear springs are +1". I'm not sure if that factors, but installation of the anti-sway bar interferes with the shocks and exhaust if I don't use a...

    Spec's for U-Bolts 1968 Chrysler Newport

    Spec's for U-Bolts 1968 Chrysler Newport

Hello Chrysler friends, I'm away from my shop manuals, but would like to order some U-bolts while on the road. Does anyone know the "B" dimensions - inside diameter of U-bolts over the stock 8.75" rear axel and "C" dimensions - length of U-bolt from inner radius to end of threads? I'm...

    1968 - Chrysler rear brakes -

Thanks for that. Good advice. I have a set of 3" backing plates from the front of another Newport. How it got there, not being a wagon, who knows.. I imagine with parking brake considerations these would not be game for rear installation, but I will try to dig deeper on that question, unless...
