Not a "hesitation" but more of a "stumble"...

An update on this... So, I wanted to drive the car a few times to be totally sure, but I did solve the problem. I did check all the ignition wiring, which seemed good. Then I changed the ballast resistor. All the stumbling problems were solved. That was something I never experienced before...

    Remote Master Cylinder Resevoir

Does anyone make a remote master cylinder reservoir kit for use with the original single pot master cylinders used in 57-62 Mopars?

I do have a spare new ballast resistor. However, it is for a 1968 Chrysler. Will that work?

Not a "hesitation" but more of a "stumble"...

So, I'm beginning to wonder if the problem is in the ignition switch or the wire to the ignition switch itself. To test this, I was thinking on running a temporary wire from the ballast resistor to the starter relay to bypass the ignition switch. I'm not sure if this alright to do. Also, would...

Not a "hesitation" but more of a "stumble"...

I doubt this distributor will work, as I have a 392. The distributor is in the rear of the block. Also, the heater box is still in place and would likely not allow for such a large aftermarket distributor to fit.

Hey there... not sure I met you there or not. I brought the '58 Imperial to Mopars in the Park this year in the Fin Class. Before this year, I was always in the C-body class.

I was wondering about this. My ammeter does not work. I assume it has been bypassed, but cannot tell for sure since it is hard to feel behind the dash board. Can a simple jumper wire across the ammeter terminals be used to bypass the ammeter? Or, should I bypass the ammeter entirely by running a...

Not a "hesitation" but more of a "stumble"...

I did manage to take the car for a test drive. It still has the occasional stumble. If anything, it is slightly worse than before. As far as the amp gauge goes, it does not work. I assume it has been bypassed, but it is hard to get a look at the back of the thing. Can a jumper wire just be...

So, I put the old coil back on. The new coil I was using was a Pertronix Flame-Thrower PNX-40011. I also checked the wiring and found the wire to the positive terminal to be a little loose on the blade connector to the ballast resistor. I re-crimped the wire to a new blade connector to remedy...

Not a "hesitation" but more of a "stumble"...

Note that the stumbling mostly happens when just cruising down the road... not necessarily on acceleration. I did not have the distributor out... just re-gapped the points and put on new cap and rotor. I did change the timing a bit to account for the use of modern gas, but that is it. I did put...

Not a "hesitation" but more of a "stumble"...

So, after doing some work on my '58 Imperial, I'm getting a weird stumble at times when driving it. It's kind of hard to describe it. The car idles great, and also accelerates great from or stop or while kicking down the transmission in passing gear. However, occasionally it stumbles, mostly...

    Acceleration vibration on '58 Imperial

And, it's fixed! After talking with someone on the Imperial Mailing List site, I found out there is an aftermarket carrier bearing assembly that can be slightly modified and used with a custom made conversion plate to be used as a substitute. The person I talked to used this to convert his '58...

    Acceleration vibration on '58 Imperial

I got around to finally checking out the driveshaft and the carrier bearing. It most definitely is the carrier bearing. There is about 1/2" of play in the rubber "donut" in the bearing housing. All the other components seem tight. So, my first guess was right. As far a fixing it, I am going to...

    Acceleration vibration on '58 Imperial

Nothing was done by the mechanic to the drive shaft or rear end. The more I'm thinking about it, I'm not sure it has anything to do with the driveshaft at all. It only happens when accelerating from a stop, and only up to about 20 mph or so. After then the vibration and thumping go away. Up to...

    Acceleration vibration on '58 Imperial

I just recently got my '58 Imperial back from the shop to do some ignition and brake work. It now has a vibration and "thumping" on moderate to hard acceleration, mainly from a stop. It sounds like it is from the drive shaft, possibly hitting the floor. It smooths out when letting off the gas...

    1958 Imperial Starter

I do have a replacement cable end on the positive cable. Does anyone make a good, proper positive cable for a '58?

    1958 Imperial Starter

I do have the original... it still works, but is getting a little slow. Personally, I think I would rather just get a new one, as this car will be a driver anyway.

    1958 Imperial Starter

Ive seen the ones available through Summit. I just want to make sure there aren't any issues with clearance or whatever using an aftermarket starter.

Front End Alignment for '58 Imperial

    1958 Imperial Starter

Does anyone make a starter for a '58? Either a new, rebuilt or some type of aftermarket starter for the 392?
