System voltage is low - Battery not charging

i rate napa's electronics as at the level of diseased meat. they may have a test bench at the store. i know that the other large chains do. whether anyone there knows how to use them? upside is that, at least at my local napa, they don't question the warranty return. if the alternator is...

    Automatic Height Control repair

yes. i checked the shelf at work today and found an on-spot unit. it's a 12v thomas. recently replaced a compressor on a kelderman 4 bag rear air suspension. the unit they supplied looked just like this unit available through amazon.

318 rough idle (20+ years in storage)

and while you're there, pull the rocker shafts. check for bent push rods. with it torn down, put your shop air straight into the cylinders as you were doing. you'll know pretty quickly if you have any compression leaks. that was my first thought but the vacuum gauge doesn't lie. it has to...

    Automatic Height Control repair

there's no shortage of 12v air compressors out there. the air ride and "on-spot" systems in the trucks i work on use them.

System voltage is low - Battery not charging

the test is supposed to be done with the engine running and the battery connected. the jumper would only be connected momentarily under the above conditions. at least now you know the field windings have (had) continuity. hope that they are not plain shorted...

System voltage is low - Battery not charging

charging a battery fully and correctly, being able to read the charge rates (current) and voltages is an art. the 850 cca batteries we use in the diesels, if they are run low, have to be charged for two hours at a low rate, 5 - 10 amps at the very most, and allowed to cool for half an hour...

System voltage is low - Battery not charging

'68 should have a single field alternator. while checking the voltage at the large wire, you could check for voltage on the field wire. then you would know if the voltage regulator is exciting the field.

System voltage is low - Battery not charging

yes if it has a shorted cell. check the water level. if it has a low cell, it's shorted. if it's a sealed case but made of white plastic you can shine a light on the side of the case and see the fluid level through the plastic.

    HEADERS FOR SPORT FURY

the back story is that there is an amc 360 that was used in jeeps. you would have to confirm that the 360 mentioned is actually a chrysler engine. even if it is, the likely hood of them fitting is about zero.

Diagnosing Slow Acceleration In New To Me Truck

own a scan tool? any fuel or cat issues would set codes. cat efficiency and fuel trim. we did one recently that had a bad O2 sensor on the drivers side that ran that bank full lean. also had leaking intake gaskets. if the truck sat a lot you could check the air cleaner for a mouse nest...
