The article is wrong about the 426 only being offered in B bodies. The E body Barracudas and Challengers could be ordered with a 426 Hemi in 1970 and 1971. I'm sure that everyone on this site knows that, but I could never understand how people can write about something without all the facts...

That piece looks like it is aluminum. You have to be careful if you do it yourself. Aluminum stretches easily. If that is held on with plastic clips, I would make sure I could get new ones before I took it off. Nice car.

I have used Booster Dewey in the past with excellent results. My vote would be to get it rebuilt.
