Ever see brake booster like this?

The odd brake noise was actually coming from an air inlet on this booster. Says Bendix Aircraft Corp on it. The inlet has a sort of coarse brill fabric under a screen with a snap ring. The sound would come from it intermittently when at a complete stop. It sounded like metal to metal but...

Brakes creaking? What's the spring the encircles the drum for ? 57 Belvedere

Brakes are like new but when I get near a stop I get this weird creaking. I thought it might be the hubcaps so I removed them, still there. Seems mostly coming from the front right (pass). I bled the brakes and re-adjusted them thinking one wheel cylinder was hanging up. Still there. Maybe the...

57 Belvedere fuel gauge and sender accuracy

Before I put the new gas tank in I temporarily hooked up what looks to be original sender from where the wire plugs to it under the car and of course grounded it and turned on the key and watched the gauge work from empty to full and around halfway while moving the float arm. I also checked the...

    Not sure about Vansauto

I recently purchased a new tank from Vans and the fuel pickup was a good 1.5" off the tank floor which seemed excessive. I contacted Vans and asked him if that was normal. He said it was but with no explanation of why it was ok. When I asked about running low on fuel much sooner he got nasty...

Got new gas tank today, how far should the pickup AND float be from the bottom?

How far should the fuel pickup AND float be from the tank floor? Right now it's at least 1.5 inches off the floor. Shouldn't the float probably be close to resting on the floor too?

Filled my rebuilt engine with 6 quarts including filter and dipstick says 1 qt low.

So would it be safe to add 1 more qt since it was a "dry" engine? 301 V8

I see nothing in FSM on the door stops and how they work?

My drivers door won't stay open and was wondering how the door stop, that flat bracket that telescopes into the hinge side of the door works? Should it be lubricated or degreased? Is there an adjustment to keep the door open? It's really annoying.

Reason timing is different depending on distributor part #?

I noticed I need to pay attention to the distributor # when timing my 301 V8 though I don't know why. I thought mine was 8 degrees BTDC but after looking at the # it's 4 degrees BTDC according to the FSM and the glove box manual. Why?

Safest lube for gas tank O ring?

I'm getting a new gas tank for my 57 plymouth. I figure a silicone grease of some kind will work for the filler tube to tank but does it matter whether it's plumbers silicone or edible or what? I figure gasoline contact comes into play? Thanks as always.

NS-1 Neutral safety switch, other part #?

Filler pipe to gas tank O ring leak.

Anyone know where I can buy the rubber o ring that isn't $30.!!? I don't mind spending more because this is an 57 Plymouth Belvedere, but "come on Man" I don't like feeling like I'm being ripped off! In an earlier post I mentioned that when I removed the gas tank cap I'd hear a whish of air...

    Tire pressure?

My 57 Belvedere has new Hankook Optimo tires and KYB shocks. When driving it drives straight and firm except on coarse or weathered asphalt. I can really feel it in the steering wheel. It's great on smooth asphalt. Is that tire pressure or the nature of torsion bar suspension? The original...

vented gas cap for 57 Plymouth?

I assumed I needed a vented gas cap and got a new one that's "supposed" to keep in vapors. When I unscrew it I hear air like a bottle cap off a carbonated drink. I read a negative feedback that this cap sprayed someone with gas when removing. Doesn't sound very vented to me? Do they make an...

Front and rear shock absorbers for my 57 Belvedere 301 v8?

I hear KYB shocks are good middle of the road shocks but there's so many on ebay and have contradicting info on what actually fits. Not looking to spend a lot but don't want junk either. Anyone have info on what will fit front and rear maybe on ebay or Amazon?? Thanks!

Delco and Autolite starters the same? 57 Belvedere 301

My Starter is an Autolite 6001 and needs a "Bendix"starter drive assembly. I just ordered one that is a Delco starter drive. Is this the same part with a different brand name? Will it fit my Autolite starter? Happy New year everyone!

Grease the gear shaft and bendix on my starter? 57 301 v8

Did I make a mistake by greasing the spline etc on my starter when installing new brushes? It sometimes doesn't engage, sometimes grinds, even once tried to stick on. Now that was only right after I put her back in. It may take many starts to maybe work it in? The spring and everything looked...
