    1965 Newport Cluster Refresh

Removed my cluster to fix a few issues. One was that the odometer stopped working soon after I re-installed the speedometer's spinning magnet ~1992. I sent that off to a speedo shop in Bakersfield who re-bushed the shaft. It had been wobbly, letting the spinning magnet grab the aluminum cup...

Dual Heater Core for AC cars 1965-68

I ran across this deal on ebay. $53 w shipping, vs $250+ other places I saw. I would snatch for my 65 Newport, except it has knee-knocker AC (different climate box). I thought of buying to flip, but hasn't been worth the hassle before. Auction ends ~8 am Aug 15 so jump. Mopar 18-300 B-body...

Changed my torsion bars - photos and hints

My original T-bars had sagged so much I was riding on the bump stops. Around 2000, I did a hillbilly fix of adding booster springs around the shock absorbers. Actually, I calculated the extra lift needed, spring rate, and such and selected springs from McMaster-Carr for ~$15. See photo below...

Upgradng brakes to dual reservoir master cylinder

While replacing the booster in my 65 Newport, I decided to upgrade to a dual reservoir master cylinder, which was standard ~1968+, per federal mandate. It is considered safer since the front and rear brakes are on separate circuits, and hopefully you will notice when one side fails. Later cars...

I posted a few months ago asking about gaskets, and there were several useful replies, but can't find it. In searching for the recommended silicone gaskets, I found what looks like high-quality ones at less price - Real Gasket of Elizabethton, TN. They specialize in aircraft engine gaskets...

Exhaust manifold - nuts keep loosening.

Any ideas how to better secure the nuts on my 383 exhaust manifold? The passenger side one started leaking recently. I have seen special bolts (12-point?) with retainers, usually for small-block Chevy, but it would be hard and risky to try removing the exiting studs in my head. I am thinking a...

    Stut Rod Bushing Fix

The strut rod bushings on my 65 Newport failed. Surprising, since I rebuilt the front end in 1999 w/ a kit from PST and have driven the car daily only a total of ~3 yrs since. Only the front bushings were worn, with the driver's side totally gone (1st photo, lower middle). The rear bushings...
