    Leaking A-745

Last year I repaired the A-745 manual trans in my 66 Fury. The job was almost 100% successful. The trans works very well. During dis-assembly I had trouble removing the tapered pin which retains the second and third gear shift lever. I ended up resorting to drilling it out. The result is that...

    Flooding T-Q

Went on an all day cruise yesterday. The Fury had been working beautifully, but when I stopped to pick up my daughter and grandkids, it stalled. I had good spark, but I smelled fuel, so foot to the floor and it started with a bit of cranking. The idle seemed slow and rough. so I twisted the...

    Mud in Stub Frame

The stub frame on my '66 Fury is in good, solid condition. Inspection with an inspection camera, however, revealed quite an accumulation of mud at the rear end of both side rails. The mud is dry as powder, but I would like to remove it. Problem is that there is no access for a vacuum and no...

How to revive an old thread

On July 13, 2021, I started a thread, "A-745 Transmission Lubrication". I got some good info from helpful members ending on July 17. Yesterday, I thought I could simply add a new post and revive the thread. I posted successfully, but, it seems the thread did not "revive". It is not showing up...

    Knurled Pistons??

If I remember well, back in the '60's, I read about a process where piston skirts were knurled to reduce piston to cylinder wall clearance and retain oil to assist in engine break-in. Does anyone remember this? Was it successful? Any input would be appreciated. I'm just curious. Lindsay

Len Dawson's Deception Pass Auto Parts

Has anyone done business with this company? I found some A745 parts on thier site and sent them an order. Len eMailed me to say that my Visa card had been "declined". I contacted the bank and after an extended time on "hold", I was assured that the problem had been cleared and the charge could...

    A-745 Transmission Lubrication

When I rebuilt the A-745 in my '66 Fury, I was unable to locate new synchronizer rings. I think I got it all done to specs from the FSM, but it will "drop out" of second gear (it is three-on-the-tree). I have Dexron for lube, but am wondering if a change of lube might make an improvemant...

Water Pump- Should I Trust IT???

I bought my 66 Fury in 1991. The PO gave me a spare water pump he had.The car had been stored for 8 years. The pump appeared to be rebuilt and never used- the seal and impeller looked new. I installed this pump in 2018 when the seal failed in the old pump. The pump is working perfectly, but it...
