I have a 72 440 that has two cylinders where the piston skirts are scoring the inside of the cylinder walls. I can only see them from the bottom side. What could be causing this? Thanks

Hello Thanks for the info, I will take some dimensions of the bearing and crank thrust width and report my results.

Question When a crank is undercut for new bearings is the width of the thrust surfaces cut wider.

Follow up! I have struck oil finally! After many crank revolutions and a wire stuck down through #4 holes on both heads I could line up the passages. Now I have to check the main bearings to see if there is a spun bearing causing a tight rotation.

No recent signs of engine work. Rocker shafts are removed so I’m looking for oil to come up from #4 cam bearing. Valley pan removed, oil is coming up around the lifters, No stuck valves. Thanks

I slowly rotated the motor by hand with a wire stuck through the head until it dropped into the cam. Still no oil up top.
