Anyone done their own Convertible top replacement?

As much as it would be cool to diy it, with the cost of material these days, I'd plop it on the door of someone who does it everyday for a living. I had my '70 Newport done by a pro and could never have done it myself, turning wrenches is one thing installing a top and having it come out right...

    Getting some chrome redone....

My suggestion would be to go to a body shop. They have two part epoxy's they use for bonding new panels onto cars. Professional grade stuff. Very expensive, about $70 a tube so it wouldn't be cost effective to buy it and the dual ram applicator tool. I'm sure they could help you out. Great...

    Paintless Dent Removal Kit

Maybe that's why Dentfix call theirs a "Ding Massager"

    Paintless Dent Removal Kit

I just sold 4 Dentfix brand kits similar to this to 4 of my body shop customers. They said it takes some finesse but they do work. At least the Dentfix ones. But they all know there is a "learning curve". One guy, a very reputable body shop, tried one of those rod kits for paintless repair...

    72 Y9 Tawney Gold versus 73 Y9 Tahitian Gold

Don't you mean "H or J Cup"? I think I've spotted some of those, but unfortunately the rest of the chassis matches the top end if you get my drift:poke:

    72 Y9 Tawney Gold versus 73 Y9 Tahitian Gold

The chart on the left is from 1972. That's where the JY9 is....hence my post. Middle row fourth chip from the bottom.

    72 Y9 Tawney Gold versus 73 Y9 Tahitian Gold

According to Docs '72 chart, JY9 Tahitian Gold Poly is there, along with Y9 (HY9) Tawney Gold Poly. Like I said there goes the J='73 theory... Something is screwy.... LOL

    72 Y9 Tawney Gold versus 73 Y9 Tahitian Gold

And the H? If in the example you gave F was 1970, G would be 1971, H would be '72 Then J would be '73 as you stated however, there is a JY9 in '72 according to the chart that Doc posted.

    72 Y9 Tawney Gold versus 73 Y9 Tahitian Gold

Perhaps the more important number for the formula would be the 4 digit code under the sample in '72 GY9 was 2311 vs. JY9 is 2510. Also I just noticed that on the '72 chart that Doc showed us, there is a JY9/2510. So the theory of the first letter being a first year of change is disproved.

For the sharp eyed C body people

Paint looks original to me. Hard to see the firewall because of the shadow. If it was repainted it must have been done a long time ago. Looks like a 383 2-bbl to me, am I missing something? What does the dash look like? No aftermarket dash hanger is there?
