    383 Backfiring

No advantage ot unhooking the vac advance line as there is no vac advance at WOT. When was the last time you replaced the fuel pump pushrod? They wear, too. Shortening the rod shortenes the stroke of the fuel pump diaphram. Result, less available fuel AND how soon the bowls get full again...

    Spark Plug Issue

What Motorcraft part numbers are stamped into the hex on the plug body? The "#86" is the marketing number on the box. Thanks, CBODY67

    Spark Plug Issue

Gas fouling is unusual, to me, unless the choke was not coming off soon enough, or something like that. Curious about hot base timing and dwell? Do the plugs cross with the old J-14Y Champions? #7 is the longest plug wire, fwiw. Take care, CBODY67

    1963 Imperial Leborn brakes

Check other threads in here about using '78-era Cordoba parts on Forward Look Mopars, as your Imperial's chassis dates from that era. What sued to be the Online Imperial Club might also have some information on conversions? Might it be that "Ram Man" is not in "the business" any more or might...

Need to replace a motor mount. Having a tough time finding them

I'm suspecting there is NO difference in the 383 2bbl and HP mounts. All the same until the change to the spool mount in about 1972 or so. The lh mount is the one which resists engine torque, which is why it is the most common to fail. To make the mount into a "fail safe" design, you can...

Can you help a Small block Chevy guy understand a 1962 Chrysler 413 with cross-ram manifold? - compression and pump gas?

Due to the fact that the basic body architecture was designed in the middle 1950s and carried through to 1962 or later, that can explain the heater hose routings, hvac system location, and the access to the master cylinder on those cars. Power brakes made things worse, it appears, with the type...

Can you help a Small block Chevy guy understand a 1962 Chrysler 413 with cross-ram manifold? - compression and pump gas?

It should be noted that both of the distributors shown above are about 1970 vintage items as they have the o-ring lower seal. The earlier models, than them, use a thin stamped-steel beaded gasket under the flange. BOTH types go into the same hole in the block and work interchangeability, just...

Can you help a Small block Chevy guy understand a 1962 Chrysler 413 with cross-ram manifold? - compression and pump gas?

If the engine was out of a NY, it should be a single-point, I suspect. A NY engine would also have hydraulic valve lifters, as the 300 Letter cars with the Ram Intake had mechanicals instead. Might try to get the difficult spark plugs out from beneath, not unlike a fuselage Chrysler 440, for...

Can you help a Small block Chevy guy understand a 1962 Chrysler 413 with cross-ram manifold? - compression and pump gas?

Welcome! As to the cross-ram 2x4 intake system, there might be some intricacies in getting the initial set-up done, but I suspect much of that has been done and probably is pretty close. 92 Pump Octane fuel is pretty close to the 97 Research Octane fuels the 413s were calibrated for when they...

Carburetor for 1978 Chrysler New Yorker with 400 engine

No, not in the same way as the newer aftermarket carbs do. If there is an "electric assist" choke heater, it is part of the factory divorced choke thermostat assembly attached to the intake manifold. It runs through a heating element modulator item that is nearby. Consult your installation...

    1966 383 516 heads what pistons?

In prior times, I considered it needless to take apart new cyl heads to be sure of them, after all, they have passed the seller's QC controls? After seeing some YouTube videos of new heads being pulled apart for inspection, I NOW understand why the inspection is needed. All to just ensure that...

    Fuel tank sending unit.

Gas Tank Renew. Used to be about $500.00 10 years ago. Good reviews from people I know who used them. Came back looking like new OEM tanks. If you really want to save some money, look up the price for a '69 B-body tank (with the rear fill location). From another poster in here, can use the...

    1966 383 516 heads what pistons?

Being around my late machine shop operative for many years, the general rule was that any non- rebuilt block would need a +.030 overbore as a normal situation. If the customer could not afford all of that, then he might put rings on the old pistons, plus new crank bearings and such, and call it...

    Fuel tank sending unit.

I believe the wrenches and seals can be purchased by the same people who sell the new tanks? Spectra Premium might be a good place to start. Then put their part number into Google to see if anybody else might have it. CBODY67

Could use some immediate help on cam timing

Related to "timing chain slack", things can look much worse than they really are, as to accurate cam timing. I recently saw where somebody actually measured the actual cam timing versus the observed slack and discovered that what appeared to be "too much", only affected cam timing by 1 degree...

Could use some immediate help on cam timing

In the world of Chevy V-8 engines, from 1955 forward, plus the later 60-degree V-6 engines, when the dots are together, that is the "180 degrees out" cylinder firing. When #1 cylinder fires, the dots are at 12Noon. In the case of those earlier Chevy V-8s, the "180 degrees out" cylinder is #6...

Carburetor for 1978 Chrysler New Yorker with 400 engine

The ONLY, repeat O N L Y, way to get rid of the Lean Burn equipment is to REPLACE THE SYSTEM, either by re-calibrating the TQuad (as was mentioned previously) or completely replacing the existing carburetor with a NEW carburetor . . . AND replace the existing Lean Burn distributor with an...

    1966 383 516 heads what pistons?

You need to let the machine shop source the parts for ONE reason. If YOU order the wrong part, it's on YOU to fix it as their shop is now jammed with a stalled job for several days because of that. If THEY order the parts, it's on THEM and they can immediately make the call to fix things...

    1966 383 516 heads what pistons?

"Positive seals" might be good for a race motor, but not for a long-lived street motor. Why? When I asked my late machine shop operative about that, he kind of grinned and replied that those seals kept the valve guides "too dry". Meaning that all lube for the valve guides comes in from the...

Carburetor for 1978 Chrysler New Yorker with 400 engine

Only with an intake manifold that fits the carburetor. AND with a normal, non-LB, distributor, which might require some re-wiring to make it work.
