65 New Yorker, first project car

By observation, Chrysler was NOT known for putting out vehicles with brakes which were not up to the weight of the car. They were very good back then and no reason for them not to be similar again. Like any car back then, you had to try to not lock-up any wheel when stopping. But this was a...

    Prepping A New Instrument Cluster

The bad thing is that it only takes a 1/2 drop from the pointed end of a straight pin to lube the spindle and ends of the odometer drums. As any excess will certainly attract dust, which is not desirable. Not sure of anything where the rear speed cup interfaces with the odometer drive...

65 New Yorker, first project car

One thing I figured out ages ago is that there are some things best left to others (who have done it before and KNOW what they are doing) than to do it myself. Brakes is one of them. I can do shocks and master cyl swaps, but not ball joints. In other words, it might be better for someone else...

65 New Yorker, first project car

One issue, due to the car's age, is the fuel system. Do change the fuel filter and DO change all of the rubber fuel lines between the tank and the carburetor. Other than normal age issues, ethanol'd fuels dry the rubber from the inside out. What might look good can leak next week, for...

65 New Yorker, first project car

Seems like there are several Mopar clubs in that region. You might meet and network with some of those members as to who knows what they are looking at when diagnosing vintage vehicles' issues. There can also be some members in here that are in that general region, too. Welcome and take care...

    Any opinions on Liquid Tape?

If you look at the factory paint, you can tell (from the light spots) the direction from which the paint was sprayed at the factory where the moldings were finished. Plus you have to also figure in that they did it with the least amount of labor possible to still get decent results. Think...

Tail Light Change and Cutting New Gaskets.

I was thinking the red lenses were used to replace the clear lenses due to various issues? Looks great and thanks for the details on how you did things! CBODY67

NOT trying to influence you at all, just offering other options not mentioned. Enjoy! CBODY67

Part-thorttle kickdown via vac modulator valve, why is that an issue? The vac modulator is not a part of the carburetor. As all aftermarket carburetors have the "Chevy" linkage hookup, just add the Chrysler bracket for the kickdown rod to it. CBODY67

Actually, Rochester built a good bit of 1.69" throttle bore 2bbls starting in 1957 Pontiacs and included 1972 Chevy 350s. The 500 cfm Holley 2bbls used the same throttle bore diameter. The Chevy 350s I drove with those big Rochester 2bbls ran almost as good as a 350 with a QJet on it, so I was...

I'm not sure of the "inches", but it is the same as the '70+ Holley 2210-family 2bbls used on 400 2bbls. Same as the BBD 1.5 2bbls, too, used before 1970 KEY POINT, "BBD 1.5" which is different from the smaller BBDs used on LA318s. What engine size and model year are you curious about? CBODY67

    Interior paint colors

The "acceptable" exterior/interior color combinations of the various cars are in the Color and Trim vehicle order guides in www.hamtramck-historical.com website. It's all laid out what exterior colors can go with what interior colors. It all makes sense. As in no green cars with red...

    Interior paint colors

Sometimes, you have to look a model year forward or backward, which used the same colors, to get the codes. My '66 Chrysler paper manual did not have the interior codes in it (for our '66 Newport Town Sedan), but the '70 Dodge paper Full-Size FSM had the codes for my '70 Monaco Brougham in it...

    Interior paint colors

Where did we find those things? Many times, it started with a Google search of the paint suppliers' websites. As some of those companies transferred their automotive "coatings" divisions to others, where they ended up was under other USA websites. TCP Global is where the Chrysler (and other...

    Interior paint colors

Might try the OEM Paint Color pages at www.TCPGlobal.com . In addition to the paint chip samples, if there are two pages of paint chips, then on the 2nd page should be the colors and codes for interiors and possibly the trunk floor and such. Usually, the interior colors could match the outside...

I want to upgrade the radio

If stock appearances are important, the above upgrade, is not inexpensive, but is not too far off from a good aftermarket radio. In the middle 1960s and thereabouts, any aftermarket radios were "universal" in nature AND looked like it. YUK! A few years later, with the advent of 8-track...

    Rectangular Steering Wheel?

One other thought . . . might the rounder wheels have been on manual steering cars, with the squarer ones for power steering models, which a NY would have been? As Newports could have been law enforcement cars where a more round steering wheel could have been more desired? CBODY67
