Rock Auto trivia question: How many Monaco & Gran Fury's were destroyed during filming The Blues Brothers in 1979?

It is EASY to put a 440 or 400 in a R-car. Just need the Gen I Cordoba front k-frame stuff. Plus ONE hose to the a/c compressor. But a stroker LA can get the same power if not more.

Rock Auto trivia question: How many Monaco & Gran Fury's were destroyed during filming The Blues Brothers in 1979?

R-bodies did not have the "Cop 440",which meant they were not the baddest cop cars around. Plus, total production of any R-body was miniscule compared to the Formals, especially the St Regis V-8s. Not all of the Formals in the wreck scenes were factory dual exhaust cars.

Vacuum Line diagram for 1976 5.9 w/ 2 barrel Holley

What kind of swap were you doing? Usually, the FSM had these things in them, which means you'd need to find a paper version as they are not online yet. In some cases, if you know the operation of the various things, it can be figured out without the diagram. I believe your car should have a...

77 NYB - turn signal flasher location?

What I discovered is that with the front seat pushed back a bit, I could rotate and hang my knees over the seat back, with my shoulders resting on the floorpan, which gave me a solid and comfortable position in which I could gaze at the undersides of the instrument panel and concentrate on what...

Rock Auto trivia question: How many Monaco & Gran Fury's were destroyed during filming The Blues Brothers in 1979?

In general, about 1/2 to 3/4 of those populations in the Chicago area? In that giant crash scene, it became obvious that not all of them were dual exhaust cars.

    Next steps? '77 NYB w/400 4-bbl

If the distributor and orange box came in a "kit", it might well be the Mopar Perf kit to convert points ignition to electronic ignition. The great thing about those kits was that they had OEM-level parts and wiring harness for a reasonably easy plug-n-play installation. A good strategic...

    Next steps? '77 NYB w/400 4-bbl

Y'all need to fully research the LB system and how it changed from year to year, in order to "work around" it. BUT, as I recall, ONE thing is that the advance curve calibrations are in the computer, not the distributor. So, if you unplug the computer, then whatever advance is then in the...

78 new Yorker fan shroud repair

Not sure of the particular blend of plastic/resin they are made from, but you might shop the local Home Depot for adhesives for construction purposes. Might need to scuff the edges to be joined a bit for good measure. THEN hope the stuff sticks over time. Just a thought, CBODY67

    Plug wires.

An observed issue with many wire sets is that they can consolidate applications under one part number of wires. Which can result in some being a bit longer than normal, in some cases. So seeking to make some work where they were not really designed to fir from the factory. Somewhere in the...

    1978 New Yorker build thread

A NY with no tilt wheel seems a bit unusual, to me. BTAIM Fix the under-vinyl issues and repaint the top a metallic black rather than a non-metallic black, with the stock top moldings in place. That way, it looks a bit different but not wildly so. Over the past few years, there was a '58 NY...

Formal wheel opinion - Factory wheel covers or Chrome Road Wheels??

Having had a set of W23s on my '70 Monaco (factory option on the car), I can say that BOTH look good. In my experiences, the W23s look great . . . but the center caps were a bit prone to getting loose and rattling. There are specific bolts with a copper flat washer under them, OEM, but many...

    Heater Hose layout

In those illustrations, they always have arrows to indicate coolant flow out of the water pump housing and out of the heater core back to the engine. Once you figure those out, as the arrows are very small and are inside of the hoses in the illustrations, it all should fall into place. Same...

    Heater Hose layout

As to the spark plug wire items, you might look for a B-body restoration parts vendor which might have something similar to what you desire. Some engine-related things did cross from B bodies to C-bodies as the engines were the same. CBODY67

    Looking Around the Artfinder Website

WOW! Thanks for that link! That '57 Windsor is truly amazing, especially considering that so many 2-dr hardtops were used as parts cars to rebuild 300 Letter Cars. Beautiful car. He should have been selling Chryslers back then rather than on LA radio. Didn't know that he was now re-selling...

a curious vinyl top (Not mine)

Back then, there was no "Kit" as such. The vinyl fabric was in a roll or pre-cut to a particular size and the moldings could be in sticks of a particular length, PLUS the creativity and abilities of the installer, combined with the imagination of the buyer. In this case, I suspect the moldings...

    Erratic idling

At that mileage, from experience on our 383s, at about 80K miles, #5 or #7 exhaust valve was "burnt" and needed replacing. An engine miss that did not feel like the classic fouled/dead spark plug engine miss. Carb changes would not affect it until the valve job is done to fix the issue. When...

    Erratic idling

With a new/different carburetor and a points (???) distributor, the only explanation I can think of is that it was previously an ELB engine that has been converted. With a points distributor, I suspect the ign system was changed. BTAIM How many miles on the car or engine? Other than the...
