    For the fender tag guy's!!!

Thanks for this nice collection of end-of-year fender tags for the 1970 model year! Actually I referred to the 1978 model year, when the C-bodies went out of production. There you see those gaps in the SPDs on cars scheduled for the last month of production. That must have been tied up with...

    For the fender tag guy's!!!

As to the uniform Scheduled Production Dates (SPD) on some subseries, here's an educated guess. To ChryCorp, the SPD together with the six-digit number that follows it on the fender tag constituted the Vehicle Order Number (VON). On this site we have the habit of calling only that six-digit...

@ayilar - I'm sorry, at the time I didn't save any additional information on that car.

1970 Three Hundred convertible fender tag

You are trying to get more out of a fender tag than was actually put into it. Consider the following broadcast sheet: It clearly states N88 "Auto Sp Control". Does the fender tag echo that? No, it doesn't. To understand why this is so, you have to know the specific plant's logic for...

1970 Three Hundred convertible fender tag

I wouldn't call them unreliable. It's more another way of coding things. As an example, take 1974 Fury III and Fury Gran, that had L25 Trunk Compartment Light as standard equipment. Belvidere tags show that L25 code but Newark tags do not.

1970 Three Hundred convertible fender tag

I think you nailed it! It's an East Jefferson fender tag we're talking about. Possibly they didn't note the G31 code as a matter of principle?

1970 Three Hundred convertible fender tag

On 1970 F Series Broadcast Sheets I see the following: Group G: Glass - Mirrors Pre-Printed Slot: 3- "Mirror O/S Rt." Inserted Value: 31 "Outside Right, Manual" Pre-Printed Slot: 3- "Remote Mir. Or Del." Inserted Value: 33 "Outside Left, Remote Control" So yes, on a broadcast sheet it can be...

A picture of the fender tag belonging to the car we're talking about would make this thread less theoretical.

Questions related to Broadcast Sheet and Fender Tag coding

In order to start resolving the meaning of the J9- slot's content, we need to: - establish what instrument panels J93 and J94 look like; - compare that to the instrument panel in @Clayboy's car.

Questions related to Broadcast Sheet and Fender Tag coding

I see an unusual thing on the broadcast sheet. In Line 9, Section J "Miscellaneous Items" slot 9- "Instr Panel" has values 3 and 4 printed one above the other. What could that refer to?

Today is the build day. 53 years old....

I didn't want to spoil anybody's birthday party, so I kept away from this thread right from the start. This is something different, however: Believing is no way to advance factual knowledge. The door sticker allows for build dates between Oct. 1 and Oct. 31, nothing more and nothing less...

    Fender tag

The broadcast sheet in the previous post could serve as the period source you were asking about. Why on earth would ChryCo put information on door panels in the slot for the Upper Door Frame Color? Come to think of it, it is the person who first circulated the meaning "Full Door Panels" that...

    Fender tag

That's a very interesting lead! Here are some pictures from that thread: There are also some thoughts in that thread about body style code 21 vs. 23: Apart from the thin B pillar also the missing window frames make above car look like a hardtop. You can also see the full-height door...

That sure calls for some rethinking! Your example is a police car. How does it look on the inside?

    Fender tag

The trouble with the 1971-1973 situation remains, of course. Maybe a case of pure inertia? I think when the slot was introduced it was about saying whether the door panels reached all the way up to the window base or not. When they didn't, the upper door part not covered by the panel needed to...

    Fender tag

And I take issue with this: 000: Full Door Frames Whatever the decoders say, on our C-bodies this code only appears on hardtops that never have a frame around the door window. With other body styles, this code indicates an interior color. As hardtops have nowhere to put that interior color...

If your door sticker looks like the one published here, then take a look at the lower left corner. There just might be an MDH indication.

Then you probably also know that the date shown on the fender tag is a "Scheduled Production Date". In combination with the old-style door sticker it will be difficult to pinpoint the actual production date.
