Replacement Aftermarket Camshaft for 383-4 and 440HP engines

When I was a teenager (in the 80's) I put a new set of Rhodes lifters into a 440 that had a "purple cam" in it (of unknown variation) to try and get a little more low-end and vacuum. I didn't know any better that you should replace the cam and lifters together as a set. My friend's father, who...

    Edelbrock AVS question....today only

Maybe take it as an opportunity to upgrade to an aluminum intake :) I don't think there's any downside other than you loose the stock look (and a few more dollars from your pocket) Yep, back when I was in high school, on my morning drive to school my Chrysler would always stall at the same...

    Edelbrock AVS question....today only

That's awesome to hear. I've been very interested in the AVS2, it sounds like a winner.

Terrible Start Up Sound and Oil Issues-Advice Needed (77 440 NYB)

If you turn the steering wheel to full lock, that'll put extra load on the PS pump so if that's the belt that's giving an occasional squeal, that should light it right up (or so I would think)

    Plastic on 77 440 block??

you might have to ask on the "ForMotorhomesOnly" forum

    is 800+ hp street-able? Turbo 440?

I did a quick rearrangement of a Newport emblem as a mock-up of what a "turbo" emblem would've looked like if they had that option back in the day :) I wish I had the wherewithal to actually make something like this... from to

    is 800+ hp street-able? Turbo 440?

Jeezus, with that kind of gear/engine/tires, could you lift the front tires on a good launch??

    is 800+ hp street-able? Turbo 440?

I've ridden in my friend's supercharged 09 Mustang Cobra and I'd say it has the best of both worlds. A turbo setup can ultimately make more boost/top end, but if you're limited by knock or other engine factors, to a modest boost pressure, I'd say a super charger would be the way to go.

    is 800+ hp street-able? Turbo 440?

I have cars of both types (well, not a 500hp stroker, but a 440 tnt 4-speed anyway) and they're both fun! Instantaneous torque is great, but so is the rush of an engine that just pulls harder and harder as you wind it out. I'm not sure which would be less dangerous in a 2 ton cruiser, though...

    is 800+ hp street-able? Turbo 440?

Oooh yeah, careful! I read many a threads in the MR2 forums where people hosed their motors running stand alone ECUs w/o knock response. If you've got it tuned to the edge, all it takes is one tank of bad gas and poof! On those 2 liters 4 bangers it was usually the ringlands that went first

Furious, do you have any kind of knock detection on your engine?

    is 800+ hp street-able? Turbo 440?

Good point. Race gas in a NA low comp motor would loose HP, but once the turbo is on it, race gas would help. I posted the octane question so lets see if I get a response...

    is 800+ hp street-able? Turbo 440?

That same guy from the above video I posted also put N2O on that same engine (not simultaneously with the turbo). The results were also quite amazing! I've always been very tempted by nitrous but I think I'd run the tank empty way too quick for it to be practical for me.

    is 800+ hp street-able? Turbo 440?

This guy put a turbo on a lightly modded motorhome 440 and cranked out 527hp/650tq at 8psi. 800hp from a built stroker should be easy-peasy :D

My vote would be for a fully programmable EFI all the way. It just opens up so many more possibilities. For instance, you could mount a flex fuel sensor and run E85. Or if E85 isn't readily available where you live, you could also install a good quality methanol injection kit and drive it...

    66' 300 383 rebuild

I don't know much about the AFB to know if it's possible, but maybe you could disconnect the secondaries altogether and test it, then reconnect and compare. Or do something to the linkage to keep them shut Keep in mind, they say that when a carb is adjusted properly, you won't feel the...

My engine is being a jerk!

Something I would mention, that I don't think was already suggested, would be that it might be a good idea to flush the trans cooler lines. On my high mileage Honda Odyssey I mounted an external cooler in line with the factory cooler. Upon the first drive, I was puzzled as to why the cooler...

Might be some metal shavings in a cylinder, what to do?

I think (fingers crossed) the compressed air and shop vac did the trick. The Helicoil install was a snap and worked great! It wasn't actually a Helicoil brand though, it was a compatible brand that I picked up at Autozone. Seemed to be fine though.

Might be some metal shavings in a cylinder, what to do?

Did some work on this yesterday. Looking in the stud hole it was easy to see that I did not drill through the water jacket. I looked through the spark plug hole inside the cylinder with a flashlight and I could see some grindings laying on the piston top, not a lot, but there was some. I did...
