1968 300 tail light panel - silver argent?

NLA from A-1 Racing Products either :( so I guess I'm going to be looking for another product. I'm going to give the Kyrlon aluminum a try and see how it looks. If it looks pretty good I'll post some pics

1968 300 tail light panel - silver argent?

Nevermind that....they emailed me saying the order was canceled because it is out of stock with no ETA I notice that on SummitRacing they suggest as a subsitute Mopar Performance Paint P4529876AB, but it is also NLA. I found the original on A-1 racing Products so ordered it there. We'll see...

1968 300 tail light panel - silver argent?

I don't doubt that the paint and also the metallic flakes in the paint do fade/tarnish/etc. over time. Yeah, that's probably the best bet -- to just try and stay consistent. What is the Mopar spray bomb??

1968 300 tail light panel - silver argent?

Thanks for the info. It even has a paint code which I never knew about. I took the tail lights out and could see that whoever painted it did not remove them, instead just masked them, so there is a different shade which was hidden. It does not look like the silver argent paint I bought to...

1968 300 tail light panel - silver argent?

The earlier 68 300's that had the silver painted tail light panel -- was that painted with the silver argent? The one I'm working on was repainted by someone with just a run of the silver paint and I'd like to get it more like original.

Where and how to buy paint

Did you order the Dupont online or buy it locally? And was the price you paid about like tcpglobal's $582 per gallon?

Where and how to buy paint

Geez...I wonder what's up with that. I looked up spinnaker white on tcpglobal. I didn't take note of the pricing but it seemed to be in the range of what you paid. I had to find Turbine Bronze on autocolorlibrary.com, here's what I find: I checked the pricing on some of the other 1968...

Where and how to buy paint

Thanks this is all great information! Up until now I was thinking that for an amateur a single-stage would be the way to go but you guys have changed my mind. I do like the idea of being able to touch up problems with the BC/CC because...well...amateur. I know painting everything at once is...

Where and how to buy paint

I'm getting closer to being ready to paint. I had been buying my products--filler, primer, etc. at the local auto paint shop and was counting on their knowledge and assistance to help me get what I needed. However, when I went to their store a few days ago it was closed up :( When I look...

1968 Chrysler, removing the stainless trim around taillights

I was able to get them off by just gripping it with my fingertips and working it on one side and the other little by little

1968 Chrysler, removing the stainless trim around taillights

I was thinking of notching the curved sheet metal on one side so it could be slid over far enough to let the other piece slide off from the middle. You wouldn't see the notch with the chrome trim in place. But my brother thinks I should just try and slowly pry it away little by little with a...

1968 Chrysler, removing the stainless trim around taillights

I was able to remove the upper trim pieces by sliding them off. But the shape of the outer curves prevents me from doing the same with the lower pieces. I'm thinking for the lower I'll need to pry where the clips are but I'm afraid I'm going to bend the trim and/or ruin the clips doing so...

    What I've been up to...

Not making my work easier is the weather. I work in a 40 x 120 metal quonset building with no insulation and is about 25ft tall in the center, so it's impossible to heat. I have these two 80000 BTU kerosene heaters and use a fan to help distribute the hot air -- otherwise I'd roast on one side...

    What I've been up to...

Both the inner and outer metal of the fender lip was pretty rotten so had to be replaced Pretty happy how it turned out. You wouldn't think it (I know I wouldn't have) but just this one patch took me a couple hours. There's a mild "s" curve to the backing piece and the upper piece had to be...

1968 Chryslers - why is there a bulge in fenders above rear wheel opening?

Ah ha -- I thought I read something about this. My brother got me that same magazine a year or two as ago as a present so that's where I first heard about this problem. Thanks for solving that little mystery for me! MrC: some of these did have body work in that area, but one of them is...

    What I've been up to...

I started dissecting the driver side quarter panel. Looks slightly worse than the passenger side More patches slapped right over the rusty spots. Patches over patches actually. The body filler was really thick here. I'm thinking maybe there's a big dent hiding under it I wonder what's...

1968 Chryslers - why is there a bulge in fenders above rear wheel opening?

An interesting notion. That would explain why my higher mileage/poorer condition cars seem to have a more pronounced bulge. And why the convertible has the most, since it naturally has the most flex just by its very nature (and is also in so so condition) Would the tenancy be for the tail end...

1968 Chryslers - why is there a bulge in fenders above rear wheel opening?

It's not something you can easily notice with just with your eyes. But if I position myself behind the car and look forward along the side of the car, as I move my viewpoint from the edge of the car towards the center, I can see that before I totally loose sight of the side of the car, that the...
