The toys that made a difference to you...

When I was 7 or 8 we had a Brix Blox set which was Sears' version of Legos. My brother and I would put together 4 wheeled vehicles and then ram them together to see who's survived the longest before totally falling to apart. That was great fun seeing the pieces go flying. It was like a...

What did you do to your C-body today....

I can confirm that. My grandfather had a 71 Marquis w/ the 429 and it was a very responsive engine with great low-end. You could even smoke the tire (no LSD) when starting out in 2nd (those trannys let you do that). It ran out of steam pretty quickly though. No tach but I'd guess by 4000 it...

What's The Cheapest You Remember A Gallon of Gas?

I definitely remember 60 cents in the mid/late 70's. Possibly .58 briefly. I also remember in the mid/late 80's, fortuitously coinciding with my teen years driving the 68 New Yorker, gas prices sunk below a dollar for a while, which was great considering what horrific fuel mileage it got...

looking for some info for a friend

To test if it's a fueling issue, it should kick over and run for a few seconds if you spray starter fluid in the intake, shouldn't it? I had a late 90's Taurus that one day decided not to start. It would start and run as long as you were spraying starter fluid into the throttle body. I...

Just one example of why I plan to keep my old cars going for as long as I can...

When I was test driving SUVs before I bought my 2011 Highlander, one of the vehicles I drove was a Volvo. I wasn't seriously interested, but the salesman offered me a test drive so I figured what the heck. It had a fancy screen and I was unable to simply and intuitively adjust the heater...

That is true, but they are piling more and more of the cars systems into a single unit which in itself increases the odds of a glitch/bug/failure affecting multiple things. When systems are discreet, the failure of one is much less likely (though not impossible of course) of causing a failure...

Exactly...I'm sure we all remember "cash for clunkers". That paid people to not just trade in, but destroy their old cars so they couldn't even be parted out. Talk about a waste!

My newest is a 2011 Highlander V-6 AWD I bought in 2017. I settled on the Highlander after reading lots of forums on various SUVs from that era, in particular, doing searches on common problems. I learned my lesson of not heeding these warning signs with my 00 Odyssey. Before I bought it (in...

And yeah, new things (vehicles, appliances, etc. etc.) are more energy efficient, produce less pollution, and so forth. But how much pollution and energy is required to MAKE the new item, transport it across the ocean in many cases, AND recycle or dispose of the old item? Especially large and...

I think the ability to detect and work around corrupted memory is probably pretty standard in the controllers by now as flash RAM can only be written to (and read?) a finite number of times. So as more of the flash memory fails, it eventually runs out of space. We had this happen in certain...

And I'm not talking about my C-bodies. I'm talking about my DD's that range from 1991 to 2011 in model years. Excerpted from WSJ: Tesla Inc. is recalling roughly 135,000 Model S luxury sedans and Model X sport-utility vehicles over touch-screen failures The move comes after the National...

The Blues Brothers - The Pickup

I just watched that movie a few weeks ago and then shared that exact clip with a friend of mine. He thought Dan's straight-faced description of the car was hilarious (which it is!). I love at the end when Dan asks John if he likes it and he tells him fix the cigarette lighter then they both...
