There is a page floating around somewhere on the internet showing what each letter means on a VON. I believe the "840" means it was the 840th special order car made in 1972 with that VON.

N means it was a special order. The T99 special order tires would trigger that. Y15 is "Direct Sale" so wasn't sold at a dealer?

Parts Books and Service Manuals are so much easier to look through in the "real" format.
