Boy, I'm a believer in claying the car now!

Claying the paint on my cars is something I have been doing for a few years now . It really made a difference when my daily driver caught some paint overspray from ?? while parked at work one day. My next purchase is going to be synthetic clay that is supposedly washable and reusable.

    Painted top

I priced out a new Vinyl top install for my 78 NYB and was quoted around 3k for a original type material installation. I'm following this thread closely as a painted top is what I want to do.

The Difference Between a Good Paint Job and a FAB! Paint Job

I have been following this thread and find all the information given helpful. I have nothing to add except the best OEM paint job I have seen was believe it or not on a 1961 Mercury Comet. The car was jet black , low miles and owned by my buddy in the mid 1970's .

78 New Yorker that cleaned up nicely.

I thought the eagle eyed learned here saw something in the pictures that I wasn't aware of. I was ready to pull the cover off the car and re-look at the title..

78 New Yorker that cleaned up nicely.

Here are a couple interior pictures including a under hood picture. Standard optioned with a cracked steering wheel  but decent leather ,carpet and dash.

78 New Yorker that cleaned up nicely.

The reason I posted 98% original paint was because of this crappy repaint of the drivers door that happened sometime in the cars past life. I am impressed with the replacement pin-striping though....

78 New Yorker that cleaned up nicely.

I have a random orbital from Griots Garage ,plus I purchased some polish from them at their display this year at the Back to The Fifties car show at the Minnesota fairgrounds. Its called "Boss Correcting Cream" polish and it really did make all the difference in the world. I was definitely...

78 New Yorker that cleaned up nicely.

What started out as a hand wash turned into a full blown clay bar, polish ,and carnauba wax detail to my NYBs 98% original paint. Four and a 1/2 hours of work now has the Spanish Gold Metallic color really popping in the sunlight. These pictures really don't do the color justice

He said original paint but wouldn’t elaborate when I asked more questions. I get it’s not a concours car, and I’m not expecting that . My posting a question here was because the under hood pictures looked to me to show a marked difference in the colors between underhood and the exterior of the...

Not in my experience. Repainted cars can hide a multitude of sins as I learned the hard way.

I’m not great at posting ads but it’s a 63 Newport that someone here posted awhile ago. KC Craigslist. 361 engine.

No overspray or tape lines that I can see from the so-so photos of the outside of the car. . I just want to be reasonably sure of original paint before I make a six hour drive to look at the car and find a MACCO special. The seller has been reluctant to answer specific questions .

For the sharp eyed C body people

Members here have much sharper eyes at picking out discrepancies in photos than I do. The seller says this car has its original paint. I'm not so sure. Outside of the car looked good but these underhood pictures have me suspicious. There seems to be a paint line? and a definite color...

    From this...to this....

To me it really is a talent that some are better at than others. As an amateur body hack myself, my question to the OP who obviously knows what he is doing is this. Was the original dented body panel totally beyond saving? Or was the replacement panel welded in the (relatively) easier solution?

I have also heard good things about the Universal clear. I haven't tried it yet ,but I am impressed with the SPI epoxy primer that I sprayed on my 67 Imperial
