    Yet another tire question

That was always my complaint with them, they're okay on dry highway but really really bad in rain. I like the cobras(and their off brand Hercules hp4000) and to be frank I think they're some of the best tires I've ever put on my cars, excellent dry traction, good in the rain, and they even work...

    Yet another tire question

I'd actually considered 255 all the way around, would allow me to actually rotate tires since I drive this car almost every day

    Yet another tire question

I hadn't even thought about sidewall roll, that's a good point

    Yet another tire question

Funny enough, I had bfgs on a duster and my supra and didn't like them on either car. I thought the traction on them was horrible, and the wet performance was abysmal

    Yet another tire question

This is running the wheels that were on it when I got it, I've got a really nice set of black police wheels I was thinking of using.

    Yet another tire question

Okay, now I know they'll go on the rim. Will they fit under the car? I know my quarter partially skirts the tire.

    Yet another tire question

It's tire time for my 72 Newport. I'd like to use cooper cobra white letters, I've had good success with them on my old Toyota. They offer 235/70/15 and 255/70/15. The latter is closest to the original height but I'm not sure if they'll even fit on 15x7 police wheels much less under the car...

    Fender tag decoding

I just looked at it and it's most definitely an 8 1/4 and the tag on the pumpkin informs me it's 2.76s.

    Fender tag decoding

According to the brochure the only option available for Fury's was the 8 3/4, or the 8 1/4. I know it definitely isn't a 8 3/4 because the cover bolts on from the back.

Mine isn't either especially considering I just bought it and I'm second guessing myself. I will check and see what it has in it tomorrow.

    Fender tag decoding

What's interesting is that it says in the above brochure that the fury only had the 8 1/4 for the 225 and 318 yet it's a fact this car was a 360 2 barrel. Wonder if it had ever been swapped.

    Fender tag decoding

The car was originally a small block so my idea was a warm 360 and an overdrive trans for right now to get it driveable, and maybe a big block and an 8 3/4 in the future. I'm trying to use as much of the car and associated parts as I can in the short term, and I really doubt a warm 360 could...

    Fender tag decoding

Oh good, 2.76's. probably wouldn't spin a tire if you neutral slammed it. I'll be looking through the junkyards for something with an 8.25 with a more usable gear. Thanks for your help! This brochure is interesting as well, I didn't know there were this many options in Fury's that year.

Would anyone have a guess as to what the rear gear is? I can always grab some out of a Jeep rear with limited slip if I have to I'm just hoping I have a usable ratio.

    Fender tag decoding

As best as my google tells me, it was sold to Ms Nooe who passed decades ago, and the last surviving member of the family that would probably remember the car died a few months ago (strangely enough on my birthday). It's incredible that this car was original to the area and lived almost it's...

Do you have any of the car's documentation? I'll see what I can find on Google.

    Fender tag decoding

Absolutely. I was going to go with a 400 but I can buy a 360 and budget upgrade it plus have a bolt in overdrive and modern electronics. I actually bought it as a tribute to my great uncle who ran whiskey in a 69 big block polara. It was a way of life for years here and it's one that's gone...

No ****, I'm from Danville. That's wild that the car was originally from here. I wonder if the first owner is still around, I'd love to get some stories about it.

    Fender tag decoding

It probably is, I saw it on craigslist and when I googled pictures this exact car came up with a link to this forum and I bought it based on the pictures. Bought it from a guy in Newport news, he had pulled the engine to use it as a decoration piece in his man cave. He was going to part it out...

    Fender tag decoding

I just bought a 71 fury 3 and I'm trying to determine a little about the car and I've been able to decode most of it but I really have a question about the drivetrain codes, I know it was a 360 2 barrel with the heavy duty transmission code d32 (score for a small block 727) but there's a code I...
