Carburetor for 1978 Chrysler New Yorker with 400 engine

I am not sure what the manifold looks like relative to the choke well on a 1975 model. Photo might help....................................

Carburetor for 1978 Chrysler New Yorker with 400 engine

What manifold have you decided to put on your car - show us a photo since to my knowledge, you will need to change it to one that will accommodate the AVS2 carburetor? Show us a photo please.

Carburetor for 1978 Chrysler New Yorker with 400 engine

It will work with an AVS2 but you would leave half the benefits of converting to the AVS2 carburetor behind. The computer only controls the spark timing/advance and nothing else. Taking off the computer and replacing it with a distributor is way better so just get a competent guy with some...

Carburetor for 1978 Chrysler New Yorker with 400 engine

The AVS2 carburetor does not have a port on it to operate an EGR valve, as far as I recall so you can just leave the EGR valve in place with no hose connected to it or remove it and place a steel cover/gasket over the opening and seal it up or just use an intake manifold from and earlier 1970-71...

Carburetor for 1978 Chrysler New Yorker with 400 engine

I am not sure how you are interpreting what I said above to reach your conclusion. I am recommending you replace the lean burn carburetor with an Edelbrock AVS2 of 650 CFM and pull the "Lean Burn" computer off the car and replace it with an earlier distributor, like 70 or 71 model years for a...

Carburetor for 1978 Chrysler New Yorker with 400 engine

There were no oxygen sensors on the lean burn vehicles since they were just mechanical devices back then too, but were calibrated to burn lean. All the lean burn computer really did was to control when the system added or subtracted any vacuum advance under certain operating conditions...

Carburetor for 1978 Chrysler New Yorker with 400 engine

For a 400 cubic inch engine, 750CFM is too much - you would be better off with a 650 CFM. I would also get an earlier distributor from a 400 engine or 383 cu. inch. @halifaxhops will have a good one for you that will give you a lot more spark advance that will give much more lively...

Carburetor for 1978 Chrysler New Yorker with 400 engine

I have written a lot about lean burn in the past on this site. I was there at the time they were developing that system and in short it was a disaster and was a very big part of the company going bankrupt circa 1980. One ivory tower intellectual convinced the chief engineer at the time that if...

Fel-Pro cork Valve cover gaskets SUCK!

I use the fiber gaskets (not cork) made by Felpro that are relatively thick (i.e. have a good amount of compressibility and I use a clear adhesive that brushes on easily and seals very well in short order. I will go out in my garage tomorrow and report on which one I was told to use by my...

Fel-Pro cork Valve cover gaskets SUCK!

This thread @ayilar is pertaining to the valve covers to top of head interface. What you are referring to is the exhaust manifold to head interface gasket. Those that you are showing though are great for that application and I use them as well with good results

Fel-Pro cork Valve cover gaskets SUCK!

As stated a couple times above, the real issue that is not necessarily readily apparent to many is to be sure adhesive such as 3M or similar is only applied to the interface of the valve cover gasket to the valve cover. If you apply sealant to the bottom of the valve cover gasket where it mates...

    best carburetor

I have not been following this thread but in reading through the issues herein all I can say is that the original Holley 4160 carbs were junk after about the first two years of normal use because they warped badly, mostly the center metering blocks, that made them not worth trying to rebuild...

Did 440 4bbl 375 horse motors get 6 pack rods?

The relatively heavy engine doesn't help but even with the 6 way adjustable seat, I still feel like I am sitting on the floor when driving it and because the seat cushion is so low, I also feel like I have to raise my head slightly and peer over the rim blow wheel. A friend of mine also had a...

Did 440 4bbl 375 horse motors get 6 pack rods?

My car was an original 33K mile Cuda with its original numbers matching 6 pack engine in it and its original VIN was still in place verifying its original 6 pack status. You are correct, as the shaker bubble was normally argent silver but I preferred yellow to more easily keep it looking clean...

Did 440 4bbl 375 horse motors get 6 pack rods?

The six pack engines were introduced in mid-1969 and all subsequent 440 HP engines got the six pack rods, even the C-body models. Here is a summary on the topic from Hemmings................ https://www.hemmings.com/stories/article/chrysler-440-six-pack I do have a 70 Cuda 6 pack and that...

    Engine Stall on Tip-in

I must not be understanding - the carb came back and didn't run well so you swapped a bunch of parts to make it run perfect for two days and now it runs badly again??? That really does not make sense to me at least........... The Holley 2210 has been discussed ad-nauseum on this site for the...

1977 Mopar V-8: Did ALL 1977's have LEAN BURN, or just the ones with 4bbl carbs?

My first job was with Chrysler and it started in 1969 - I was in a special group as part of the Chrysler Institute of Engineering program where they chose a number of college graduates around the country to participate based on grade point averages and interest in automobiles and their majors...

1977 Mopar V-8: Did ALL 1977's have LEAN BURN, or just the ones with 4bbl carbs?

You are correct, as the 318-2 bbl cars that were recalled were 1977 models, not 1976. Those were busy times for me so a lot of it is a blur so many years later now...................... I corrected my earlier text. Thanks.

1977 Mopar V-8: Did ALL 1977's have LEAN BURN, or just the ones with 4bbl carbs?

From the beginning in terms of quality - as stated in the text, Chrysler at the time they were designing them knew they really didn't have the money to do the new designs but the market shift to the formal styling theme was solidly in place from all of the big three. It was a very difficult...
