Canada.
My grandfather then bought it as a lease return and it became my grandmothers.
As far back as I can remember, grandpa always parked it in the winter and had a military style canvas tarp that he put over it.
Even when they stopped driving it, the tarp was only removed when it was fired up every couple of months or so.
When I was a teen, grandpa had the motor and transmission rebuilt to bring it back to life.
It was then sold to my father to carry on the restoration as it had started to show its age.
Dad had the car for several years before he was unable to continue working on it.
It then sat again for several years until I was able to have the room to work on it.
It still has the original 383ci V8 Commando mated to an automatic transmission, but Dad had installed an Edelbrock intake and 4bbl carburetor to squeeze those extra horses out of hiding.
The black vinyl roof was removed to fix some rust that was starting to form underneath and then painted to protect the metal until a new vinyl roof can be reattached.
The whole car used to be the silver as in the pictures. Dad had added the black on the horizontal surfaces but I am not sure if I want to go back to full silver or keep the black as it is.
It is now on my shoulders to bring it back to life once again and share it with others.

Thanks for sharing your story, very cool. it certainly looks like you have a great Headstart as the car appears to be in decent enough shape. Do your family and the Cars legacy proud and get her back to where she needs to be. In my humble opinion anyway..

Ditto here, it's a nice starting point. A V-I-P with a 383 is no slouch. Plenty of pick-up, and a de-luxe/swanky blue interior...….. with the optional horn button steering wheel (Chryslers had the same option) no less. Silver w/black top is always elegant. Maybe you could re-do the silver, leaving the top dark, and see how you like it. You could always add vinyl top later if you want. No reason to rush though. See how you like it after driving it a bit first. I bet a set of magnum wheels (which you might have been able to order from the dealer then) would look nice on one of these. A subtle, GT V-I-P look.

Good luck with it - and thanks for posting.

Cool car. I think I would go back to the all silver and so does my wife. If married usually what the wife says goes. But it is great that this car has stayed in the family.
