Per my ‘handle,’ I’ve traditionally been an ‘Imperial Man’. But I’m really excited about my recent eBay purchase (7/28/19) of a 1971 Plymouth Sport Fury 4-dr hardtop. One of my favorite aunts had a new Fury III (a ‘70) when i was a kid, and I always thought it was an amazing car.

Though not heavily-optioned, as a ‘premium’ Sport Fury model it is well equipped with: 383 V-8; 4-bbl carb and dual exhaust; concealed headlamps; tinted glass; white vinyl top; bucket-back bench seat w/ the no-cost optional cloth-and-vinyl upholstery (black vinyl & ‘charcoal’ brocade cloth inserts with a cool ‘blueish’ hue like charcoal). No rips or wear spots at all, and no cracks in the dashboard.

Most strikingly, it wears an unusual paint color: “Mood Indigo” iridescent (metallic). Offered only in 1971, this deep cobalt-purple hue was not as pervasive as better known early-‘70’s Mopar colors (e.g.: Plum Crazy, Tor-Red, etc...), and was ‘exclusive’ to the full-size Fury line (thanks @Marv for the correction). This may be an ‘urban legend’ but... I recently read a blogpost from an individual whose father was a Plymouth dealer. They indicated that as a ‘showroom draw’ Chrysler Corp. produced a run of ‘Mood Indigo’ Furies: just two per-state, according to the poster.

Originally a Texas car, it was purchased from a Wisconsin collector who owned it for about 3 yrs. After spending the next 3-weeks coordinating/awaiting shipping, it spent another 3-weeks with my mechanic for a thorough ‘going-through’. Happily, the car is largely just as-advertised.

In addition to the requisite fluid changes/flushes/ alignment..., I had a number of repairs/ upgrades made to ensure drivability and safety.

New Items include:
Master Cylinder, front disc pads, rotors, hoses. Electronic Ignition. New Fuel Filter (re-routed to stock location). Alternator. Idler Arm. Rear Shocks. 3-way Horn Relay. Turn Signal Switch. Set of 4 Cooper Trendsetter SE P235/75R15 narrow whitewall radials.

Ready just in time for my annual 300 mi. round-trip weekend meet with my car club, the car performed flawlessly. It had no trouble sustaining speeds of 65/70 mph on Rt. 50 from Washington DC to the Delaware beaches. It ran even better after the trip, and idles smoothly.

Forced by the 2008 Recession to take a long break from the hobby, this is a fun way to jump back in!

The car is very purrty indeed. Congratulations on your purchase! I remember seeing it for sale too, I know it was on Ebay. I think it was on here too. I love blue cars with the white tops. Those are the wrong rims, but they look great on the car.

Thanks @sf70 The color really was what ‘got me’! And yes, incorrect-but-sexy rims (love the argent hubs and charcoal caps)!! Please, educate me: which era/model rims are these(?) lol. Per my ‘handle’ & thumbnail photo, though I could likely I.D. the ‘radio delete plates’ for various ‘Forward Look’ cars (lol), I’m relatively new to the intricacies of ‘fuselage-era’ Mopar! Would love to know...?? :)

I dunno either! Lol. As-mentioned, it needed a bit more “TLC” than anticipated, but... nothing horrendous. I ‘lost’ a vintage car to brake failure in 2012, so... I made a pro-active decision to go overboard on that. It’s a solid car(!).

I´d like to be a smartass for a second. GC8 was a 1971 only color not offered before or thereafter. The first letter G indicates the year of introduction E -> 1969 (like EV2 Hemiorange) F-> 1970 ( like FC7 plumcrazy ) G -> 1971 like your GC8. Furthermore it was a Plymouth only color not available on Chrysler/Imp or Dodge ( maybe with a special order that would be indicated by 999 on the fendertag ).

And last but not least according to my researches it was just available on the (Sport) Fury models only, not on other Plymouth models.

Those are 1970's rims. They were on the A, B, and E bodies.
