1966 Chrysler 300

General Information

Purchased this 300 in August of 2016. Saw it on the side of the road with a for sale sign taped to the door. I hadn’t owned an old Mopar for a few years and thought I would get back into the hobby. This car reminded me of how much I enjoyed my 68 fury convertible.
The woman in Vermont owned it for many years and had always parked it in her barn. Took it out for the spring and a tree limb fell on the top and windshield, damaging both. I guess this was the last straw for her because She didn’t want to spend the money to replace the top and windshield. Paint was toast...but original color. Luckily the car had been undercoated in the 70’s. Underneath looks wicked solid. She had many of the original receipts which showed (2) previous owners. It has spent its whole life in the northeast, except when she drove it to Florida for the winters.
She followed me home with it and I had it registered the same day. Took a cruise down the mountain that night to see the fireworks over the Connecticut River! The first thing we tried to do was bring the paint back to life. Realized after a while that wasn’t gonna happen! The only thing I found that works is a hack from an old farmer. He told me to use a little hydraulic oil on it. At least it’s presentable. Also protects from rust until I get around to painting it. Found an original low mileage tinted front windshield for $40 and had it professionally installed. Most work I can do myself, the Internet has so much information nowadays. I got to work right away replacing the usual components; brake and fuel lines, fuel pump, shocks, u-joints, rear bearings and seals. I upgraded to 15 inch rims and hubcaps. Found some excellent side faux vent chrome pieces on eBay...also an AM/FM original radio and a Clock. Bought a new top and will replace soon... A couple small rips were easily patched. Had the heads/valves rebuilt, timing chain and water pump etc. Put on a four barrel Edelbrock carb/intake and dual exhaust. Still have the original four barrel intake and carb. Don’t know what I’d ever use it for? I would love to be able to get an original looking air cleaner to fit on top of the new carb. Still have the original it came with it just doesn’t fit on the new carb.
The interior is presentable but seats need to be rebuilt and recovered to be perfect. Can’t believe the dash is not cracked. I really enjoy driving this car pretty much every day. It makes the trip back-and-forth to work tolerable!
