Our '66 Polara 500 Ragtop

Supplements my build thread.

General Information

Tank 5 .JPG
This will be the photo supplement to my build thread. It's build date is December 8th of 1965, and Ma Mopar in her interesting ineptness, built the car as an RL code (correct for 65) instead of an RM code (correct for 66) convertible.
It has the 62 code 325 horse 383, auto on the floor, white vinyl buckets with black carpet, heat with AC, power drivers seat, and rear armrests with ash tray. It also has the tilt/telescopic steering wheel.
I received stewardship of the car 2/25/19. According to the PO, the car was purchased by his brother from an elderly couple in Kansas. He believes that they may have been the original owners This occurred around 1985.
The brother drove it to San Francisco and kept it until 2000 when he sold it to the PO (brother). It was trucked to Detroit where the brother drove it in the summer and stored it winters. I was told that the car had 110k mileage on it when he (PO) took possession.
The PO retired and drove it from Detroit to Arkansas. He continued to drive it less and less until being in storage so much, it started to give him starting issues.
About 2 years ago, he started posting to sell. He drove it about 12 miles in 2018 then parked it in storage. 3 months later he tried starting it and it wouldn't fire.
At that time his son in law listed it again, and my wife saw the ad. She made contact, then I talked to the PO. He told me what he'd let it go for, and I said if the car meets my criteria, I would purchase it. It did, so I did. From 2008 until I took possession the PO drove it 3900 miles, about 900+ would have been from Detroit to Arkansas.
And that folks, is where we'll start the new journey.
Update: The journey is interrupted by the need for a new gas tank. Tanks, float, inlet sock and a fuel line flush are in order.

Looks like a nice, highly-optioned Dodge. AC, and telescopic wheel....... may it's "new journey" with you be a smooth one. You'll have to post more photos as it progresses.......

That is a GREAT place to start! Looks like its in good shape for its age. Love the white interior! Cool car! Good luck.

Looks great, have fun with it.. Mine is a base '66 500 convertible, same color, but black int and roof. Wish mine had your options.
