I swear Ive searched and searched even in that huge wheel thread.

A lot of people post the wheels they have but do not post what tires. I have a set of 17x8 wheels and am debating on tires. a 245/45-17 is super common and cheap but less than 26" in diameter. Just looking for pictures of known wheel and tires sizes.

I think you want a tire that is 28" or so.

thanks! 255/50 sure isnt a common size. Your car has been my inspiration for my car since I was a kid. Every year I do a tail of the dragon trip with my friends. Ive brought my motorcycles, corvette, cadillac ATS 6mt before. This year... I'm bringing the boat.

FYI, I bought those tires and wheels last fall. Found the tires on eBay. I plan to bring the car to Carlisle this year.

Azzuro is the brand I bought after some internet research, sport truck tires. Who knows how they will wear but big change in grip from the old tires.
    275/60 and 235/70 equivalents

275/55-17 on 9" rear and 255/55-17 on 8" front. The rear is almost 29" tall but masked by the overhang. The side walls on both front and rear are close to stock.

Once you get into the 50 series 17s its starts to be sport truck tires for sure. My rear tires were oem on older Mercedes M class suv. The fronts were OEM on Dakota R/T. I considered 245/50-17 for front and may do that one day.

I went with the 235-55-18's because it's the factory size for my Mustang, and I have an extra set. :)

I have 235/55-17s on 17x7 wheels on my 68 Sport Fury. This combo is virtually the same height as the original 14" tires and wheels, so not fitment problems whatsoever. They help the car handle and track very nicely. The only downside is that the ride is just a little bit harsher with the lower profile and higher air pressure, but it is not a big deal and I love the way these look and drive. 68 Sport Fury 2.JPG

Try dropping the air pressure some to improve the ride.

Or see a chiropractor, because I have zero comfort issues with the ride quality of mine. Still like driving a LazyBoy couch down the highway, on a cushion of dinosaur farts.

Wow, this has surprisingly morphed into the America Racing Magnum 500 thread. Chest bump to us all.

& VN501, which are what is on my '66 300. I think one of the reasons that they are popular is that for a modern wheel, they have a classic look that evokes the Magnum 500 and people have also told me that they remind them of the Keystone Classic wheels. I think another reason that these are popular is that they are reasonably priced. I got mine from Ron's Rims directly but they also sell on eBay. $160.00 each shipped for 17 x 8's.

Wheels / Rims - Expert Tech Support and Service from Real People

Ron's is a mom and pop rim dealer in Fairview, PA that is located near an American Racing distribution facility. Great service. He will gladly answer any questions that you have and he will tell you that American Racing has a hassle free return policy. If there is a defect in your wheel, they will replace it without any hassle. I like dealing with small businesses and can't say enough positive things about my experience with Ron's Rims.
