This noise just popped up. I've ran the engine about a hour overall before this noise started. Lifter tick? Dissapears or camouflages above idle

Motor sat 40 years, fresh rotella 10w40, good filter, good oil pressure

I just added flush now waiting. What do you guys think it is?

That sounds like mine because lifter wont pump up.

Sat to long i guess, redid wiring now oil pump aint pumping. Did fine 7 months ago.
Ha, saw we are talking on another thread...

Maybe that relief valve was hanging up, causing no pressure? I've never seen one with those marks before

I fired mine up after sitting for a couple of years, I had the same thing till I took a little drive in first gear at about 20MPH, then it went away. Good Luck

This one started after about a hour of run time, that's why I'm worried

I removed the valve cover. No rockers have what I would call excessive play. What are other signs of a sticky lifter? Anything else I should look for?

I know when I ckd mine, pushed down on push rod end of rocker, had 1/4 inch lifter play. Fixen to install new pump, will return with results later.

Just a quick update, took new oil pump apart, cleaned out machine oil, made sure no trash. Packed with petroleum jelly, filled new filter all the way and installed. Left valve covers off. Turned over motor 8-10 seconds with dist unplugged. hooked back up, motor fired right up, oil light went out 3-5 seconds, all push rods flowing oil. Shut off, replaced covers, restarted. Ran several minutes finally all lifters quieted down! Starts right up first crank like before, now going to change oil and filter again, put fresh Amsoil and wix gold filter back. Thanks for all the input, advise and past experience pointers. Havent got to drive it since last thanksgiving, back in the saddle again! Again Thanks guys.
