    Hi,

I have a 65 NYer with below fender tag. I think its a 413. Fender tag says code "99" under AB. Appreciate any insight. Happy holidays to all.

65 New Yorker are all 413. 99 is the standard engine.

If in doubt if you still have the 413 in the car, there is a machined pad opposite the distributor that is stamped, usually with the numbers 41 or 413 if it is a 413 engine. You can also check the block casting numbers and the block casting date to verify.

Agree. Definitive answer is stamped on pad top of engine block. Should read: A413, followed by date code.

A lot of them were stamped A41, for what ever reason the 3 was left off. That is a 413. That was true of some of the older 413 engines as well. My '64 300 is just stamped 41.

Will need to double check tomorrow, but pretty sure my 65 is stamped with the full A413. The switch came in 1965, but I'm guessing that some of the early installs may have been using up some earlier blocks that still had the A41 code.

After looking at a lot of fender tags, it appears that many were just stamped 99 for no particular reason. It may have been the default for one plant.

    see post #2.

    All codes have a reason.

Code 99 in 1965 means the car received the standard engine for that application. Optional engines coded accordingly.
