just open the speedo, speedo worked fine, the trip set would not work, the tiny gear had mover over on the tiny shaft the width of the gear,, also my piano buddy says to use naptha to clean plastic parts, it wont destroy the gears etc

Why not used some brake cleaner sprayed onto a cloth? Or dip them in Dawn? MANY other degreasers rather than naptha!

You'll have to replace any gunky grease you remove, for smooth operations.

No brake cleaner. While it might work with some plastics, it's been my experience that it can also destroy some, especially old dry plastic. Naptha (camp or Coleman fuel) is pretty easy on plastics, but I'd try a small area just to be safe.

I often use CRC QD electronic cleaner for stuff like this. It's mild and won't destroy paint (again test first) or plastic. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000BXOGNI/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1

Mineral spirits is probably pretty safe, too.
My grandpa once told me that kerosene could be used to clean/lube the mechanism of a wind-up clock. Probably would work here as well.

No brake cleaner.
The reason I mentioned spraying it on a cloth was that it would be less violent and the user could modulate how much was used, rather than liberally applying it.
