Very rare one here-

1968 Dodge Polara 500 Convertible. Very Nice Mopar. Local consignment. Great car. Priced to sell. Runs Great(one pump and fires). An Investment you can drive and enjoy. Looks rust free. Been in storage for a long time. Don't wait, once it's gone it's gone!

If you look close I can see some paint issues. Saying that, L code nicely optioned car. Probably a Dry car being from Idaho.

U.S. car.
L code Polara optioned out like a Monaco.
Rare car and was not cheap when new.
IF I had spare change I would snap it up.
She is a unicorn!

I kind of like this. I have my eyes on another this color but not 500 with almost every option available on a Polara in 68. And a red interior that matches mine. But It’s not for sale yet but maybe soon.
I know that as soon as I would spring on this, the other would come available.

Top must have been replaced, it doesn’t have the glass window either. The Body belt molding (3 over 0 on tag) is gone, must have had some sort of touch up, as those trim studs need to be ground down.

Yep everything but disk brakes trailer package, cruise and A/C, Has Passenger mirror and even the white accent stripe was factory.

Is that right? The brochures show the 500 without moldings & lower level Polaras with. It does appear to have optional fender turn signal indicators.

3 over 0 on the fender tag is what I have on two other 68 Polara’s. Now they are base Polara’s not 500’s so not saying it couldn’t be that way. If that is the case then what are they considering as belt line trim? Would have to look at it closely. The optional fender mounted turn signals are o the fender tag.

I did see another 500 for sale last summer that didn’t have the belt line trim either. But didn’t get fender tag.

My books also indicate the "0" is a body side belt molding, complete option code 540. However, the sales literature does not indicate that is even an available option on the 500 or any Polara. Apparently it came as standard equipment on all Polaras except the 500. I think it's just an anomaly on the tag & this car never had the moldings. Now if you could find a 500 with them that would be interesting.

Did a quick Google image search & couldn't find a single 500 with the moldings. Did find an amazing example that sold on auction for $21k (a steal IMHO) but don't know how long ago. They claim only 24 500 L-code convertibles were built which is plausible.

Interesting, Is it a Polara 500 convertible thing? The Drama goes on :drama:. There are a lot of quirks still to be found.

I like the free- standing alternator mount.
The exh manifold makes you wonder if it's the original motor...
Agreed, that's a 70-71 driverside manifold. I missed the alternator bracket on first glance.

Seller says 'looks rust free'. I can come up with 4 ways to interpret that:
1 - We didn't really look it over, and we don't see any rust when we stand near it.
2 - It has lots of rust, but it doesn't look that way.
3 - It used to have a lot of rust, but it's been patched up.
4 - It's a truly rust-free car with all its original sheetmetal.

All things considered, they aren't crazy on the price if it checks out as legitimate and honest.

Here's a couple of 1968 Monaco 500s on this site that have the belt molding code but no molding. Perhaps they just spun a roulette wheel to decide whether to install.
