1968 Plymouth Fury Electrical Problem

I went to drive my car today, and when I speed up, or rev the engine. The ampmeter pegs all the way to the right. The voltage regulator is 2 years old, battery is 6 months old. Alternator is the orig from 68. Never rebuilt.
