It pains me to do this, I had no intention of selling this car but medical things have to be addressed so I cant take it with me when I go. Up for Auction is my 1969 Plymouth Sport Fury Convertible, be advised, this is going to be a lengthy description because as it stands this is basically a new car.. It has taken close to 13 years to restore this car, two reasons one they do not repo parts for this car so everything on it is either NOS, OEM, or the finest vender available, two the original owner started restoration but did not finish because he passed away and he spent massive amounts of money on it before I acquired it 3 years ago. When I had received the car it came with three moving vans of NOS parts he had acquired from dealers that had gone out of business years ago, also a complete empty body that had been media blasted an epoxy coated. So this is how I started. The Fury was originally bright gold metallic with a white top and a white interior, since the car was a shell I could not bring myself to paint it back to gold and since he had already close to 800 hours of sanding and block work I figured since I wasn't going to sell it lets go ahead and paint it black. Paint used is as follows-sealer PPG epoxy sealer- RM Diamont Base coat Ultra Black 2.5 Gallons- Spies Hecker Dyna Clear 3 gallons, in total $3100.00 in paint product alone not including the labor to paint the car which was an additional $4800.00 but it sure looks beautiful . Mechanics- everything has been reconditioned, front suspension all new ball joints, bushings, rotors, brakes, brake lines, new rear leaf springs, new rear axel bearings, new rear drums, new rear brake shoes, new rear shocks, new front shocks, new front tie rods, new high pressure brake lines, new brake master cylinder, new brake booster, mind you these are all OEM parts. Engine- original numbers matching 318 cubic inch, completely disassembled and reassembled with new gaskets seals and a later model 4 barrel intake and four barrel carburetor. The car only had 40937 miles on it so the motor was in perfect shape just put the master gasket kit in it to be safe, also have the original 2 barrel intake that will go with the car. Transmission is also numbers matching and has been completely gone through with new clutches and bands, filter and a general service. Rear end is the original 8 3/4 with a 489 center section. Dash has been reconditioned by JUST DASHES and the cost for that was staggering but again they are the only ones that have a clue on how to make your dash look the way it did when new. New NOS dash bezels, all switches in the dash have been replaced with new NOS switches saved the old ones will go with the car, consul of the vehicle has been reconditioned with new side lights and bezels, steering wheel has a brand new NOS center piece, carpet is new, seat covers, convertible boot and convertible well liner are all made by Legendary Interior and are new. Front and back bumpers have been re plated by Tri City Plating and are flawless, back up lenses and front turn indicator lens are new NOS, Front grill is a brand new NOS grill good luck finding one of those for a sport fury, all emblems both on the side and in the center of the grill have been refinished to original. The back finish panel as you can see was painted to match the rest of the car but I do have another that is still argent that will go with the car. Door panels on the car are perfect. Again I can go on forever telling you what has been done however if you want to know anything else just email me. Now for what the car will need. One it will need the trunk rubber, forgot to order it with all of the other weather stripping which has been replaced, including window whiskers door seals and all of the seals for the convertible top. Two the convertible top, the frame is ready for the top everything is there however I was going back and forth on whether I was going to use a black top or white top, then the other news came about so I do not have the time to finish that part, however the reserve on the car reflects the cost of the top replacement. The cost for the top with a glass rear window is $350.00 from the convertible top specialist out of Florida the labor to install the top is $600.00, that is all you will need. The extra parts that will go with the car are as follows, a complete set of electric switches as mentioned before, another set of rear quarter glass, a nice set of kick panels, I was going to use those to install after market speakers instead of cutting the original ones up, rear tail light trim bezels, they are pitted but those were going to be stripped and powder coated black chrome, and anything else that has been collected for the car will go with the car.. The vehicle is current on registration and the Title is clear and in my name. so again ask all questions before you bid. Good Luck. Now for the legal crap- THIS VEHICLE IS BEING SOLD AS IS WHERE IS WITH NO WARRANTY IMPLIED OR INCLUDED- SHIPPING OF THIS VEHICLE IS THE RESPOSIBILITY OF THE BUYER BUT I WILL ASSIST AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE- PAYMENT- A NON REFUNDABLE DEPOSIT OF 20% IS DUE WITHIN 48 HOURS OF AUCTION CLOSE IN THE FORM OF CASH-WIRE TRANSFER-PAY PAL- THE BALANCE OF THE MONIES MUST BE PAID WITHIN 7 DAYS IN THE FORM OF CASH OR WIRE TRANSFER NO EXCEPTIONS- IF YOU CHOOSE TO USE PAY PAL FOR THE BALANCE OF THE MONIES YOU WILL HAVE TO PAY THE FEES INCURED BY PAY PAL. Again if you have any questions just email me I will answerer right away, Good Luck and happy bidding

Wow x 3. Wouldn't try to guess what it sells for, but would like to know how much has been invested so far between the two. Sad that health issues come along and change everything.

Quadriple wow.
I'd be scared to buy it though.
That car comes with the same curse as the Hope Diamond.

Edit: Where is the grey speckle trunk paint?

There are things incorrect with the car and a small block will help hold the value down

At a glance the car is a knockout but I would want to see it in person. Look at the way the doors, hood, grille line up...or in this case don't. Also the pitting on that 8-3/4 axle. Makes me wonder about the overall workmanship. If its a cheap driver I could overlook a lot but if the price creeps higher a good visual inspection is required.

That same thought occurred to me too.

The car looks like it has been a labor of love with no regards to cost. I'm not big on black cars but this one is a beauty.
I used to look down my nose at 318 C bodys, but after driving the admiral I've rethought that opinion.
The 318 supplies plenty of power coupled with excellent economy and reliability. I wouldn't swap the Admirals 318 straight up for a 440 now.

I don't think this car could be dublicated for 20K. It will be a bargain for anything less.

ok, then I am probably the bad boy this time.

There is a bunch of parts I do not like.
Aluminium radiator, trunk finish, battery cable, air cleaner, oil dip stick, radiator houses, missing fan shroud, engine colour are just a few. The nice road wheels don't belong on a 69.

Very important for me: it is a colour change car. It was gold originally. A repaint in a non original colour is a "no go" for me being a purist.

Finally: I do not like 318s in C-Bodys in general. For a daily maybe ok but for a fun toy?
Sport Fury? With a 318 there is nothing "sporty" on this Fury.
It will be beaten at the traffic light by any 4 banger with 75 HP.

It looks nice and lots of money was spent but it is simply not "my taste"

Carsten

PS: Did I mention the windows are up?

I was blinded by beautiful paint.
You got me looking at the engine compartment and then all the details skipped over started driving me nuts. I quit at a dozen because I could not get past the hex nut on the air cleaner housing.
A mega-buck air cleaner with a 1/4-20 hex nut from the coffee can.

Carsten is right, from a purest point of view. and I, being mostly a purest, agree the car has way to many deviations from OEM. Several shortcuts also... flexible hose, tacky hose clamps, retainers. It's a hobby car rather then a purest example.
I like that it LOOKS like a 69 Sport Fury should look, No aftermarket wheels, coffee can exhaust tips, white letter tires, incorrect interior etc. To the untrained eye, (which most, who will see it, are), it will help promote the Mopar C body cars.

So you still line up at the stop lights Carsten....?:giggle: Then what.... drop the hammer on a 50 year old car....? Against what.....? a Shelby, SST Challenger, ? You'll get your doors blown off. The days of being a stop light champion is over for our aged supercars..... The 318 in this car is just fine for allowing the longest exposure time for admiring looks as it passes by. It's hard to see the thumbs up when your banging gears on an antique transmission.

Low "Origianl" mile is moot point once you do a total restoration, the only time it matters to me is on a survivor, a nice survivor.

A general consensus. ....

Hi Will,

I am great in hammering a 50 year old car. ;-))
You are right Will, it is tough for old muscle cars to compete with modern ones so it is even tougher for our C-Bodies to compete with them.

I don't use my C-Bodies for drag racing, thats what I have B-Bodies for.
But I use my C-Bodies for daily driving, too. It is important to have a car fast enough to flow in traffic and being able to make passes in one lane streets. A quick acceleration from 50mph to 75mph or from 30mph to 55mph is important.
The same is valid for driving on the autobahn.
My Imperial or the 69 300 feel good cruising with 90-95mph on the autobahn. They still have a big reserve left at that speed.
How would the "admiral" with a 318 like cruising with 95mph for a long time? How much reserve does it have at that speed?

When the traffic light gets yellow some brake, others push the pedal to the metal to pass an intersection.
For sure some of my Cs perform better than their drum brakes do.

I don't drive my cars to get admired or getting "thumbs up" but I drive them because I have enjoyment to do so.
And sometimes people in their average BMW or VW wonder why this huge tank was so "fast" at the traffic light.

The 318 in a C body may not be a time bender, but they are better than you give them credit for. I would love to have a 440 but also would accept the reality that with that engine e I would be feeding a lot of horses that don't get used.

Hi Carsten, always nice to hear from you.
What other reason to drive one of these tanks except to enjoy. Certainly not because they are practical......
Part of my enjoyment is the gratification of others appreciating the sight of them, They evoke nostalgic memories in many who do not have the means or desire to own one, (especially these old station wagons). It would seem a little selfish to not acknowledge others fond memories.
So when I get a thumbs up, or see others pause and watch us pass by, (usually with a smile), I wave, or toot the horn and go on to enjoy the experience just a little more. No need for loud exhaust or blistering acceleration demonstrations.

I'm not special, just a lucky caretaker of a small piece of history.

Will.

WOW!! a couple of weekends detailing and a little panel alignment would produce a top notch car. i don't see anything there that is insurmountable. besides who doesn't like to tinker with their car, especially a new purchase. as far as the color, mine was originally citron gold metallic, repainted black in the eighties and will be black again. personal preference.

Besides the autobahn why and where would one need to cruise @ 95 mph and require reserve power to pass at an even greater speed? I drove a new 318 powered 1970 Custom Suburban back in the 70's and the 235 horse V8 was more than enough to merge onto a 70 mph freeway and pass slower traffic at will. IMHO the costlier 383 & 440 V8s did not have enough extra horsepower to overcome the better MPG and reliability of the 318. In 1978 I had to drive 90 miles (90% freeway driving) from the college I attended to a Dr. appointment in downtown Minneapolis in one hour. I drove my Dad's 318 powered 1970 Custom Suburban and I made it on time (you do the math on MPH).

Hi Will,

your are right again with your words.
These cars are often memories for older people who know the cars from back in the day and enjoy it to see them again.

But that is a difference to germany ie. Those cars were rarely seen overhere back in the day (except for the areas were the US army was stationed). People over here look at them, some will enjoy there view but it is different as no one owned an old american car 45 years ago.

Please don't get me wrong. I am not lightening up the tires at every traffic light.
Actually I do it extremly seldom with a C-Body.
But it is good to know that I could if I wanted to.
