The red outline in the Center of my 70 300 convertible grille has been badly repainted at sometime in the past with a flat orangy red paint.
I’m cleaning the paint off of the front grille signal light lenses, and while I have them off I figured I would sand and correctly repaint the red.
Can anyone help me out with what the factory colour was, and the sheen (flat or semi gloss)?

Testors gloss model paint is what I used. Matches well, lasts and is cheap. Get the little bottle of enamel.

And did you use red or dark orange?
I see both on cars in photos on the internet

And to add some info to a good grille paint thread, the Hurst color is simply School Bus Yellow.

The masking took me 23 hours. Spraying took 20 minutes.

Before, with all the original paint removed using lacquer thinner. No sanding of the chrome is needed. Which is probably why the red (or the Hurst yellow that was hand painted over it) chipped away during the past 50 years.
