Oh not this guy... here we go again!

My thread for the rare s/23 seemed to go over well with the membership (thanks for your interest guys!), so I thought about doing this thread for all the Sport Fury GT’s I found while looking for S/23’s.
I haven't been through all 300+ pages of threads so maybe I'm duplicating something somebody already did -if so, sorry about that guys....

Given the watchful eyes of the membership seem to catch nearly every C body that comes up for sale, I’m sure the membership has probably already seen many of the cars I found. BUT there’s always the possibility that there are a few gems I pulled from corners of the internet that some of you may not have seen yet.

Not including the 11 GT 440-6bbl models known to exist, (of which there are only 4 with pictures) my count is a mere 40 units domestic, plus 7 in Canada, and 5 in Europe. Of course, I am still new to this site so there may be some GT’s owned by members that I am not yet aware of: feel free to add those corrections to the list.

The 40 I found include GT’s that were photographed in scrap yards, GT’s that came up for sale, GT’s randomly photographed and posted on FLICKR and FLICKRIVER, etc., those posted on “Billy Fury’s” page dedicated to SFGT’s and, of course, the registry website. Grand total: 63… a mere 9.45% of total production and that number shrinks significantly when you factor out the wrecked units.

So Let us proceed with the treasure hunt and see if there’s one you missed.

    First up:

Wasting away in a yard in Panama City Florida, under an unidentified species of conifer, this green GT had seen better days and currently served as a home for varmints that leave big pellet turds, and mud daubers. Near as I could tell it sat idle in various spots for about 18 years until it was put up for sale on ebay in 2008. The keeper of the car wanted 2500 for it… there were no buyers. The owner threatened to part it out if there were no takers after the second round on eBay. Power windows, power seats, console/bucket seats, dash clock, am-8 track with full 3 speaker dash and two rear speakers, front wheel discs, AC, and the original 440-4 and 727 torque-flite still in-situ.

Seemed a shame to let a GT with its original engine and trans still in place get parted out… so dumbass that I am, I bought it. Now that I have the car ya wanna know the reason it fell out of service? An electrical genius was attempting to wire-in an accessory of some kind and dead shorted power to ground subsequently frying the electrical harness. Even though the outside was in remarkably fair condition after 20 years of neglect, the bottom of the car is Swiss cheese from the gas pedal to the gas tank-no exaggeration… even the wheel houses. Nothing is fixable so I basically have to weld a whole new car to the bottom half of this one if I want to drive it.

2010 defunct website posts landyachts.jpg Next we have A GT posted maybe 2010, said to be for sale, on a website that “looks for” so called land-yachts to post pics of. The website is now gone and there was no detail on where and when the picture was taken. Anybody know how to run a lic plate number? The woods look like one of the swamp states –like Louisiana, mississipi, maybe alabammy? Wherever she is, her fate is unknown.

This is A burnished red-poly SFGT I found on a website called “fotodecarros.com”, photo dated 2009. Location unknown but I suspect it was in California. All the trappings of a GT, there is one peculiar note: the hood badge reveals a “383” not a 440 was optioned for this GT. A 383?? Very strange, but I believe it was indeed an option available for the GT, yes? Seems like a real GT to me, not a clone, but with no vin # there’s no knowing for sure. For now, its Fate is unknown fs_1970_Plymouth_Sport_Fury_GT_Hardtop__Burnished_Red_Poly_fvl__2005_WW_WD_DCTC__DSCN7158.jpg unknown GT 2009 from fotodecarrosdotcom.jpg unknown GT fotodecarrosdotcom closeup.jpg

Located in Wisconsin, This barn-find gem is a 440-4 GT that was, well, actually found in a barn. The new owner has put it in the registry. So what is being done with it now?

This is just sad. No date, no location, no details at all, a gold GT ends its life in a muddy junkyard in what Seems like the pacific northwest area.
    flikrivemindnet.jpg

The pile of cars in the back ground don’t look like jeeps but look more like Land Rovers, possibly Lorre’s; so, Canada? I can only guess this sad GT’s final resting place is perhaps Seattle or Canada -that seems to be where a lot of the GT went, yes? . If I had money, I might have bought it just to make a resurrected GT out of a fastback Fury using everything from this one. Everything that made this car a GT transplanted to an undamaged body frame would be as legit as replacing every panel with a new one, near as i can figure it, but I know some of the membership begs to differ. This pic is at least 5 years old, so her Fate is unknown; I’m sure the engine was pulled and the rest crushed.

    Oh- OHHH!!
OH this REAALLY annoys me. Look what they did!!
    Ruckersberg GT.jpg

Sitting dead in a junk yard in Ruckersville VA, it was on the Craigs List in 2013. The owner didn’t even seem to know it’s a GT, given it was advertised for sale as a Fury III.

This car was literally stripped bare! No engine, no trans, and it looks like even the rear is gone. No interior parts at all –not even a steering wheel left. Just mud and grass inside.

AND the guy wanted 2500. Seriously? Fate unknown, I expect it didn’t sell, and was ultimately crushed. Think anybody rescued it?

Sounds like it's time to buy a good spot weld cutter and a dry, cheap 4-door and get to work. :D

Are you ready for this? I’m sure you guys spotted this one but for those who missed it, this lonely GT was dragged away from all his friends in the lower 48 and banished to a backyard in Wasilla ALASKA! On the Craigs List in 2010, the owner didn’t have the resources to continue the restoration and needed to get rid of the project immediately–I recall the “wifey” was behind the pressure to “sell”. I also recall he was asking 3000-3500$ for it. Its ultimate fate is unknown.
The trend seems to be that some broker buys a car like this one, brings it to Europe, and it ends up in Norway, Sweden, The Netherlands...Pluto...

I can account from one in Maine. It was in very rough shape and the owner put the motor, transmission and rear end in a 68 sport fury convertible. I had the entire nose and many interior parts.
Some of the parts are now in England, Canada and the US. Still have most of the nose and many other parts

Somebody REALLY HATES gold GT's... cuz somebody was sure gunning for this one.
On the Craigs List in 2012, this poor GT was located in Denton TX. Looked like one of those small private junk car collections.
2012 denton TX guy wants 2500.jpg
It has a baked-dry interioir, no engine or trans, wrecked and rusted beyond standard repair work, we have another dreamer wanting 2500 for a shell! I think he said it would be “junked” if there were no takers.

ID plate gives us a peak at what it once was… now its Fate is unknown.

Update: member K DeVries says a client has possession of this one.

2012, A GT came up for sale on the Craigs List in Waterford WI.

Any of you guys make an offer on it? It was sold for 2800.

The car was in pretty rough shape –it took a pretty hard hit broadside and while the door was banged out it didn’t close, and the rear quarter was still bashed all the way in.

Pictures revealed the lower quarters on both fenders –front and back- were rusted through. The hood had spots of rust and dents here an there, the brakes didn’t work, the trunk floor was almost completely eaten away, and there was no gas tank.
    2012 waterford WI.jpg

On the plus side, the 440-4 was still in place, and running. The black interior was in very good condition too as was the “gator grain” vinyl roof.
The car was highly optioned with: power windows, power bucket seats (but oddly, no center console –it was a column shift), rear window defogger, front disc brakes…and the power trunk release (never saw that before).
Additional frills included dash clock, am-8 track with 4 speaker system, an –of course- AC.

    the WI GT.jpg

I would like to see this one return to the streets restored to factory condition –wouldn’t you? Not likely. The rear steel subframes had turned to mush by worst corrosion I’ve ever seen.

Welcome to the party,...even if you are a little late.

There are 11 known VIN numbers for the Sport Fury GT 6BBL, and there are 8 actual cars known to exist at this time. Three of those are in the restoration process, and the other 5 are "in storage". One of those cars (Dave's) is finished and showed at Carlisle this year; a very, very, cool car,....it was awesome. My customer did some trading for it and it will be saved. I have restored cars that were worse than this one.

unknown GT from mr440-6 gt on flikr.JPG ANOTHER GT in the weeds… oh the humanity! Pulled from a “photo stream” collection posted by “berd boy” I cant tell if this was b7 blue or plum crazy.. or black. No details other than it’s a GT (strobe stripe still visible), it looks to be sitting in one of those “domestic” junk yards where the local farmer basically scraps all his cars and trucks and farm equipment- like I saw a lot of on farms in TX. If I knew where it was I might have attempted a rescue.

Here’s another GT photographed by “berd boy”. He’s a 440-6 V code fanatic, but mostly finds just derelict 440 GT’s. This poor baby has had it pretty rough. Details unknown… date unknown… location unknown. Can you run that license plate? I can’t tell what the state is no matter how I examine it, but it could be a California plate.

    cant tell GT in WA.JPG
