    1971 Dodge Polara Custom Sedan

Original Paint GY3 Citron Yella, Black Vinyl Roof and Black Cloth and Vinyl Interior
GY3 was a "High Impact" extra cost, one year only, paint choice in 1971 and was seldom seen on Performance Cars of the day let alone a Four Door Sedan Polara. I have owned this car for over 10 years and have never come across another.

The car has its original matching numbered 383 engine and torqueflite transmission with a 3:55 sure grip 8-3/4. It sounds nice and has a little giddy up to it with the upgraded 4bbl Carter, MSD Ignition and dual exhaust. I just put in a new set of NGK plugs and fresh Lucus High Zinc oil change with a good WIX filter.

The car has power steering (the only real leak on the car) and manual 4 way drums. The braking system has been gone through and works very well.

Everything else on the cars works, am radio, all the lights, horn, heater controls wipers and washer etc

The chrome and the stainless is all in good to very decent condition. This car is a survivor type car but I did replace all the side marker and tail light lenses with NOS.

Besides the GY3 paint the Polara was ordered with a tinted windshield, remote drivers mirror, the front bumper dressup mouldings, black side mouldings and the AM 5 Speaker with floor mounted cassette recorder. I do have a complete cassette recorder setup with everything you need to install and the matching AM/FM Thumbwheel Radio for extra money available.

The dash pad, all the door panels, headliner, seatbelts are in good shape. The seats covers will need to be repaired and I have a brand new carpet to go with the car.

The car does need some rust repair, with the lower quarters, dog legs and drivers front door needing some metal work. The passenger side lower front fender has had poor work done to it sometime before I got it as well as some again poorly done paint touchups to the passenger side of the car. The trunk pan is very solid as is all the frame rails and torsion bar mounts. The floorpans will need a small patch on the passenger side footwell. There was a quick repair done to the area behind the back window roof area between the glass and the Dutchman panel.

I am asking for $5750 USD/$8000 Canadian for the car.

I am in Brantford Ontario which is approximately one hour west of Toronto, one hour from Niagara Falls and three hours east of Detroit.

    Dave

Crickets so far on my Polara. I am guessing the closed border isn't helping. I've always had lots of interest in this car over the years. Anyway I will bring it home out of storage tomorrow.

I guess I am a bit curious to hear your thoughts?

I've always wanted this car. Well, as long as I've known of its existence, probably 20 - 22 years now. You aren't bad on price, I guess. It is a bad time to sell, add the closed border ....

Well I have had it for sale on here for less than a week. I also listed it locally for the last five days. Couldn't get it yesterday so I will try again today to get it out of storage.

What is weird I had lots of views...I also put up my daughters 2009 Caliber for sale too...same day...not many views and it sold right away and it is gone and paid for. This is after a day and a half....I saved it after I sold the Caliber.

By the way, this car is not a Polara Custom (DM) but a base Polara (DL) (at least in the US).

In 71 a custom is still a DL. The only DM is the Brougham.

You should own it. It should be passed around our little group. You buy this, and I'll buy Stan's old 4-speed NYB. And add decklid scoops.

Right you are. The base Polara was E in 1971.

I'm thinking the two things going against you are the rust and the two rear doors. I personally like 4 dr's but a lot of people don't. I'm going to be listing my 66 NY'er 4 door for sale soon and am expecting those same crickets you're hearing even though it's rust free. The rare color is a big plus for sure on yours but apparently not enough yet. Good luck, it only takes the one right person.

But still it's nicely priced compared to other classics. And this color is extremely rare on a c body.
But still, it's not a good time to sell a car right now. Many people have other things in mind than spending their money on a classic at the moment

My theory, (and this comes from doing some aftermarket work for gypsies dealers) is as follows:

"Hal knew this was his last day at Jack Sampson Dodge. "Number 4 in the Southwest!" went the idiotic slogan... There was no way he would continue working for the man he caught half-naked with his wife at the annual Christmas party. They were too preoccupied to notice Hal enter the coatroom at the Elk's club, which meant Hal would still have access to the dealership's IBM corporate ordering terminal.

He used his key and came in early the next day. Jack and the rest of the staff, despite their huge tolerance for alcohol, would still be nursing hangovers from the Christmas bender. What could he create as a nice F-U to the boss man?

"Hmm, let's start by ordering a musclecar-shade of piss-yellow on the type of 4dr sedan normally purchased by grandmothers and driving instructors. Haha, that will screw the ol' sumbitch". But then it occurred to Hal... What if that SOB ran it through the bodyshop and painted it a sensible shade of dark metallic green? Those guys are on the payroll, and that scumbag would just add the paint to an insurance job. "No, I better really F this up..."

"How about a big-block and manual brakes?" A smile came to Hal's face. "Let's add the 5 speaker cassette option, but play it through an AM radio." Still missing something. "How about a black interior and no A/C. Have fun selling that when it's still here in July you fat prick!"

With the order submitted and verified, Hal walked out of the sales office and noticed his secretary was looking rather pretty this morning. She didn't attend last night's booze-fest. Maria had been many things, but mostly a good secretary to him. He approached her and said, "I never really noticed how sweet you are to me. It just so happens I'm free this morning, would you like to go to Denny's with me?" She accepted and the two walked through the lot to Hal's Winchester Gray 1971 New Yorker Coupe. It was a particularly beautiful morning, so much that Hal opened the sunroof, casting a perfect light on Maria's tanned, long, shapley legs.

Hal and Maria never returned. It's rumored they started a new life together. And the Dodge? It arrived a month later. Jack's string of profanity is rumored to still echo through the showroom of the dealership, almost 50 years after the fact.
